It's because a tax in general is used to get people not to do something. Look at tobacco, alcohol, carbon taxes as examples. What your saying is we should penalize people for bringing value and productivity to our society.
On top of that I think its better to leave money in an individuals pocket. I think that an individual can decide what the best use of his money is and invest it accordingly.
The idea above is a sharp contrast to a government who takes one persons money and gives it to another. What an arrangement that is! Can you imagine if I had the power to take your property from you and give it to whatever cause I want? Perhaps I would take your money and give it to Elk11 because I feel his business is to important to the Canadian economy. It doesnt matter that elk is a multimillionaire, and that you will receive no benefit from me taking the money from you. And if you dont like what Im doing with your money/property, that doesnt matter as your forced to pay. If you dont pay you go to jail.
Its for the reasons above that Im against a progressive tax, and tax in general. I think there is a need for certain government programs, but that these programs should be limited to allow the individual to keep more of their money/property. The core of government should be to protect a nation's citizens from others, both internal in the form of laws, and external in the form of a military.
