I hope they can keep it up but have been saying over and over that they need better goaltending. I keep getting told it's more a product of bad defense and quality of shots vs number of shots on goal yadda yadda. We shall see, especially to make the playoffs first of all and to make a run for it.

Yup. Pretty frustrating to lose like that, but tough to play a better game than we did. Ran into a hot goalie while ours didn't have a good game. It happens. Shots ended 57-22.

Saw this on Twitter. Still don't think Skinner is "the guy" as a #1, but interesting stats..

Yup Stu was not sharp early or late and you can't give pure goal scorers like Stamkos time in the scoring zone, he'll kill you, on to the panthers time to start another winning streak

Just thought I'd do a comparison following their last 13 games.

Edmonton is currently 13-15-1 with 27 pts.

If 95 pts is required to make the playoffs, they'll need to go:

-0.641 win percentage for the remainder of the season;
-Get the equivalent of 34 wins; or,
-34-19.

Nine teams had a 0.641 win percentage or higher last season.
Currently their win percentage is 0.466%.

Definitely doable, but they have their work cut our for them, currently site 27th in the league, and haven't made much progress from 13 games ago.

Missed the game. How did they play defensively?

They played well, not a ton of mistakes. Pretty back and forth.
Quick was unreal in the first two periods. We dominated the third and thankfully Quick's luck changed.

Skinner was excellent.
First goal was pass-of-the-year stuff, no one was stopping that.
Second one (PP) was kinda-sorta under Skinner, chaos, they jammed it in.
Third, with 0.1 seconds (6 on 5) and it didn't matter, was weird...I think it was on Draisaitl's stick when the guy whacked it perfectly. Skinner was ****ed. But again not a bad goal and not the result of a breakdown.

Overall, really good game against the best team in the league.

Back to back 4 point, 3rd period comebacks. Some pretty good line shuffling. Wonder if they have a look at Rodrigue for a game when they swing through California after Christmas.

I agree. I am the first one to be critical of the Oiler's goaltending but Skinner did make some great saves in the game for sure.

Good game both defensively and offensively last night, but it was against the worst team in the league, having said that last time they played the sharks they lost.

Nice to see more secondary scoring, skinner looked good last night, hope he can maintain that level of play, I'm a bit skeptical but we'll take the 2 points and move on

I saw it differently. Sharks whiffed on some great chances… missing open nets. Some bad turn overs by Oilers didn’t get capitalized on. Some sloppy D and bad give always… people don’t think about them because thankfully the puck wasn’t buried.

Score could have easily been 5-3 or 5-4.

Offensively Oilers got some good depth effort. Still trying to figure out why McD and Drai are under performing this year compared to last year. Watching McD fighting for pucks along the boards, he seemed to rarely win the battle. Wondering if he has an injury.

Skinner seemed calm and confident which was good however had a couple shots go in he may of had trouble.

I almost would have preferred a hard fought 2-1 win over this 5-0. May give Oilers too much undeserved confidence.

Fingers crossed.

Mcdavid is not underperforming.
If you look you will see that since the terrible start, and they broke the snide, he would be first in points. He had an injury early on and missed some games and after that underperformed for awhile.
But not the last 14 or 15 games.
Lots of 2 and 3 point games.
He went from 67th to 6th place in that short time frame and will continue to climb.
Now you know.

I watched him last night and he didn’t look 100%

Another big 2 points against a good team. Skinner played well other than he'd like that 2nd one back and a lax first period. GO OIL!!

Another good effort last night, the 1st period was not great, nobody looked like they were in it, at the 25 minute mark LA had 2 goals and Edmonton had 2 shots by the end of the 2nd it was dead even in shots and even on the scoreboard, hard hockey, LA is a big team and they play a hard game, kudo's to the oil.
Let's go hunt some Duck tonight boy's

I was thinking that Derek Ryan had a tough night. By that, I mean very physical. He's not big, not afraid to go into the corners and as a result, he gets plowed over a lot. But he keeps bringing it. Probably nobody Knoblauch trusts more for getting the puck out of your own end than this guy. Turned 37 yesterday. Negotiated his own contract over the summer for a 2 year term. A lot of people think that more than a 1 year term for somebody over 35 is not a good idea. At the time of the signing, the thought was that even if he's in and out of the lineup for maintenance days, the contract should be fine. I don't think he's had any maintenance days this year so far. He uses those compression leggings after games to help with circulation and recovery. Good value for this guy. Was curious to see who the coach would trot out for the fourth guy in the shootout but wasn't that surprised.

Knoblauch has done a good job of making everybody feel that they have a role and are important to the team. Although Evander may not be too happy with his ice time the last few games.

McD is playing strong. Drai has his magic stick working again.

great to see Foegele starting to get rewarded, he's been steady but didn't much puck luck early on

Agreed. He brings a few things to the game but putting the puck in the net was not one of them. A scribe joked recently that he must only have three fingers. He's on the last year of his deal. The thought all year was that he would be part of a deadline deal for a less expensive option or to fill another need. We'll see.

Unbelievable to me that he's able to stay as healthy as he does. Oldest & smallest guy on the team and the abuse he takes on a nightly basis. Warrior.
