Default pike flies

Looking for some new patterns to tie up, and try this year, any suggestions?

I've had good success with different variations of these.

These are fun to tie, and I've found very effective. They are very expensive, but definitely worth it. I tied them as tubes and on big game articulated shanks.

I hope to try this pattern out this year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjlSnBzWgWQ

And I'd like to start making some Blane Chocklett patterns My buddy once made a great point about pike flies "its all about moving water".

Here are two that I tied up last night. I haven't really done much hair spinning, and was the first time stacking hair. What do you think ?

I'd say you have a knack for it, nice ties. I especially like the mouse!!

They should work

I find stacking deer hair fun but for fishing I find it better off to keep it simple. I usually find keeping it simple like adding a ring of colour, a white belly, or a different colour nose to the fly is all that is needed. I still find my self tying some odd ball stacked flies but never found them anymore productive.

A little less trimming on the head of the mouse and I use rubber legs front and back. I find it is good to have the legs a little on the long side for extra movement

A big 5inch+ mouse style fly can work well in the canals were pike take muskrats.

For streamers white, red, yellow, black, orange and chartreuse have been good colours for me

Just some friendly advice from things I have tried but like I said I believe what you have tied will work.

I find they like two toned patterns dark on top lighter on the bottom. I really have good luck with double bunnies nothing to fancy. Easy to tie strip on top strip on bottom large head or a fish skull. Colors black on chartruse or natural over white. I started using synthetic hair same scheme I will see how they work.

Nice mouse!

For sight fishing, simple ties, single purple zonker, pp minows and such. Light presentation.

For blind casting that dahlberg will work, but tie it on a bigger hook. Bushy flies that push water will make searching easier.

I tied the dahlberg on a size 2, and the mouse on a 3/0. What size should I tie the dahlbergs on jeprli ?

I use "worm" hooks, they're meant for softbait rigging when bass fishing and such. They're fairly cheap and can stand a lot of abuse. 3/0 works for me, shank is long enough but not too long, wide gape helps hooking fish and also acts as a keel so fly swims true.

You can tie your weedguard a little closer to the hook, make that loop smaller. All you need is to cover the point of the hook. It will foul less and make hookups easier.

Pike are not to picky this time of year. Anything that is large bright and flashy will work. Pick something that is easy to tie cause after a couple of fish the fly will be toast. I tie a modified double bunny 2 different rabbit strips siliconed together on the hook shank work great last a little longer. Plus I tie on stainless steel saltwater hooks. They never bend out of shape. I am re tying on three year old hooks that are still sharp as hell. 2/0 size.

Here you go. It's not super pretty but it works I can tie 10 of them in an hour and way cheaper then buying them. I don't always use the fish skulls.
Black over chartreuse works the best. Most of the time I put some lead on the hook. Just look up double bunny on the net. I puncture the bottom strip with the hook tie it down at the head tie in the top strip put a dab of super glue at the bend then coat the bottom strip with silicone stick the two together let it dry. Use super glue to finish the head wraps.

Spun a couple of these the other day. Fish them with a full sinking line with a long leader. The fly is buoyant enough to stay on the surface while the line sinks, then when you strip the line it pulls the fly down. Pause your stripping and the fly will ascend back to the surface, that is when I find I get the most strikes....
