Just wondering how long a rat could stay in a colony or submarine trap before you would start to worry about hair slippage? I thought this may happen rather quickly, but maybe not?
Should still be good after a couple days I always check my rat traps every day the longest time I left them was 3 days in the spring and they were still fine
the local trapper caught muskrats but then a mink got into the submarine traps and destroyed the fur by tunneling into the rats livers. to make matters worse the mink got out of the submarine trap so trapper was left with nothing.
Depends on the time of year. In Early Fall/Late Spring I check twice a day if possible. Even at 1 day some of the larger rats will start to green a bit. In winter once every day or two is fine. Just keep in mind that once a Mink patterns you, if you check evey 2 days, you will likely find a line of rat parts.
