Default Coyote Challange

New to the forum and see that there was a gopher challange going on and wondering if there is one for yotees. Was out last night at brother-in-laws and heard them at about 6pm. Grabbed 223 & 270 and a call and walked over to his hay flat about 100 yards from the house. There were about 30 whitetails on the flat (no big bucks) and got settled. Gave the call a few honks and the hay flat cleared in about 30 seconds. Another 30 seconds later 4 yotees are coming across the flat heading straight for us. I tell my brother to take the closest one as I just got him into hunting last year and I have been hunting since I was 14 so just over 15 years under my belt. Waited until they got within 40 yards (hoping to get all 4 if possible) and he let it blast. Dropped his right where it stood and for me I missed with 3 shots. So much for the experience I have and letting him take the close one to be nice. Looks like it will be a good year and I think I had better bruch up on my shotting skills before rifle season comes or he will really put me to shame. Let me know if there is a dog challange and what the rules are. Thanks

You think any of us could keep up with RedFrog?

That sounds like a great idea to me... Especially starting in December when the regular season closes... Sure would be fun to see how everyone does, compare notes, etc.

Welcome to the forum, MuleyMonster!

I'll be in forsure.....Cause we all need excuses like a contest to get out and shoot coyotes after the big game season is over...

Can't Wait

Don't feel bad about missing the rest...at least i don't feel too bad about a similar experience now.

Anytime you can get just ONE its a good hunt. I've had 5 charge me, lots of time to shoot at the runners after shooting the first one but still never connected on the rest....neither did deadnutz.

I've rushed and missed first shots in hopes of getting at the others sooner and missed them all so no matter what...concentrate hard on that first one....then see how fast you can make the rest run afterwords.

Lol...

To let the rest of the world in on the joke....when dnutz and myself first took the coyote thing on...the very first coyote we called and killed happened to be a 3 legged coyote...and i was the lucky guy to shoot it.

So i was bugged for awhile about not being able to kill 'whole coyotes'....at least until i finally killed a whole coyote. A few years later and dnutz shot one with 1/4 of a tail that i got to work him over on that a little bit.

We've emptied guns on a few stands and come up empty handed figuring out the leads on the left to right type runners is hard...gonna need much more practice to start whappin more doubles and tripples and maybe some semi-auto gear with lots of rounds in the mag! Coyotes in road gear are tough to hit! I wish more of them just ran straight away.

Oh, and about the coyote challenge...don't think i'll get too many this winter..best winter recreational calling was 19 for moi but i was single and could get out at least one day each weekend, now married and with new baby things are way.....WAY different.

Default Kids and Yotees

For me my boys (3 & 5) love to come dog hunting as they call it. They think it is really fun to go racing down a stuble field after a yotee and then slam on the brakes to jump out and shot. Have taken the oldest one on a few calls on the warm winter days but have not had anything come in close enough to shot. Kids have excellent eyes and there has been a few times they have both seen one and had to point it out to me. One word of advice, ear plugs and snacks!!! I have only forgotten ear plugs once but my oldest reminded me just as a yotee was coming in and of course kids are load and the yotee took off.

Another tradition that we started last year was practice shotting carved pumpkins after Halloween is over. Kids just love to see the back side after it is hit with bits and pieces everwhere
