The first gunshop I ever visited in Alberta was Barotto Sports !...I was in awe !!
All we had here at home back then was Canadian Tire...all they had was..1/2 doz of remi-semis, couple pumps, couple of 303's and 25 beat up things that were traded in...lol
I had my truck in CowTown for service at Kenworth, asked the manager if there was any gunshops close by ?...he told me about them, gave me his personal vehicle and said see you after lunch !!
Met some amazing people that day...spent wayyyy too much money there and then....left there with another bunch of money owing on layaways
Remained friends for years with the KW manager...met Brad before he ever owned WSS.
I met some older chap outside the counter at Barottos.
I mentioned to Otto that I was interested in getting started in Rifle reloading. This older gent took me almost by the arm...he led me around..spent an hour and a half with me going over stuff, equipment, what extras I needed...what was good, what wasn't, explaining a bit of pressure signs, powder, bullets..He was awesome !!
...back then, he almost puts me in mind of pics I've seen of CAT now.... ...what a great gentleman he was !!
Those small shops were always in my radar after that. Didn't matter where or what province...I was always asking where they were !.
I sure miss those days, and chance happenstances !!

Barton's in Grande Prairie was awesome when Jack owned it. I have not been in the store in many years so I can't comment on the present owners. Pud at Bashaw Sports is excellent. Eagle Firearms in Tisdale is my go to now. Eagle is so laid back and helpful they remind me of the gun shops I used to frequent with my Uncle 35 years ago.

I was working in GP for a few weeks in December and as usual, always like to check out the local gun stores.Had a great visit in Barton's,staff and service was great,(and I dealt with at least 3-4 different staffers on various topics)...handled a few rifles I was interested in,bought some ammo and a hard to find spare mag, great chat with young lady staffer on coyote hunting and their annual contest(unfortunately was unable to participate as my work had moved on)....spent well over an hour in there/great experience,I'll definitely be back next time I'm in GP.
Another shout for Proline CGY,love the small shop atmosphere and bargain hunting in the reloading section, partial boxes of bullets, used dies etc.
I live in SW CGY so I frequent both CSC and TSE,and find the service at both can range anywhere from outstanding to nonexistent, depending upon who's working that day,or maybe to some extent how I'm dressed that day?Just because I look like a raggedass bum some days,it's a mistake to dismiss me,as I likely have a wad of cash burning a hole in my pocket if I'm in the gun store.I might look all NC Star/Norinco,but my tastes and budget are more NF/Vortex/Sako.

Next time you're in town you should visit Proline Shooters in Inglewood on 9th Avenue. It will bring back those old memories that you are fond of. I just don't recommend going there with your Kenworth, parking could be a problem.

So after seeing the posts from the new folks running Milarm figured I would get over my past experiences dealing there ( which on the whole weren't real bad but they sure weren't outstanding either) and give them another try. I shopped there occasionally but sure wasn't my go to place.
On this thread Madball replied they had LH 308 Tikka's in stock. So I pmed him and asked about 4 potential calibers. Got an almost immediate reply that said they didn't have any of the 4 in stock at the moment. What I found most interesting, there was also no suggestion they could order one in for me.
Figured fine, Pmed right back asking for timeline and price to order one in. That was mid day on the 15th. To date, crickets. Pretty much the service levels I was used to from Milarm before. So much for new beginnings and second chances. Doesn't mean I won't buy there in the future if they have something I want at a good price but they aren't jumping to number one on the go to place either.

For small town sporting goods I really like the folks at Cheap Seats in Athabasca.

Sorry it took a bit to get back to you buddy, I just replied to you. I think 48 hours is a pretty standard response time.

First off, I specialise in online marketing channels and fulfilment and setting them up for various companies. In this day and age email and live chat has replaced the phone and 48 hours is no longer an acceptable response time. Same day on a business day is sort of the minimum acceptable. Up to you what service standards you choose but if you are thinking 48 hours as a standard, I can guarantee that isn't going to work out well for you.
Second point, I am not trying to start a major argument but in your PM and your first response to the post above you told me you missed the response from me, which tells me I would never have got an answer without the post in this thread. That excuse I can actually understand much better than the 48 hour answer because no matter how hard everyone tries, mistakes still do happen.
Your PM says you can order them in, I think that's great but why would you not have offered that in your first response. This was my actual point with respect to thinking in terms of what will make the customer happy, rather then just answering the exact question asked.
I wish you all the best for the future.

Hey does that manager guy behind the counter at Milarm that uses the F word every other word and rude comments to describe things still work there? I went in twice a few years ago and was very offended that he was so liberal with his choice of words without a second thought that maybe the person he was talking to, not to mention the women in the store might take offence. Well I was offended and chose to take my business elsewhere. Will never set a foot in there again nor will I recommend the store to anyone. At the gun shows I just walk on buy.

Local Gun Shop Shout Outs
OLD POST FROM 2016
KDHUNTER
"ww arcade, in the basement was where all the firearms were, can still remember the wooden stairs going down there, creaking and groaning, anybody remember that, and the Dot, the sales lady there in the gun dept?"
I sure do remember these good old days at WW Arcade with Dot. Had many conversations and sales through her. My father bought me my first shotgun there a CIL Model 402 410 which has claimed many ducks, geese and upland birds. It's still in use today by my sons.

Maybe we can stick to positive shout outs here, pretty sure that's what this thread was made for. Perhaps it was my bad on asking for a good shop here and changing subject but that wasn't my intention.
I had a small hiccup with Milarm but Madball made it better and served me well and for that I'm appreciative and would like to give him a good shout out. Keep it positive guys.
