Default Life long project

My car is finally getting its due rewards for being with me for 30 years.
'69 SS Chevelle getting a Blown 509 transplant, Chassis almost ready has Currie diff, 4 link, lowered spindles, Willwoods all around. Body in primer, new Tremec Magnum 6 speed sitting on shop floor.
I sure hope I can turn the wheels on her this summer, but lots to do still.

I ended up finding an exact match (except for engine) in Manitoba. After dancing with the owner for over a month my brother bought it and had it shipped up. When he went to pick it up in Edmonton it was raining, and the car was out of gas,....etc. to which I received a phone call and got cussed out for talking him into buying the car. Seems like he forgot all about it after he was stopped at a red light and got his first thumbs up!!
As you can see from the smile on dad's face it brought back a lot of memories.

That is a nice old Galaxie XL, and something you don't often see,...in 1975 my older brother bought a '66 Galaxie XL with 390 4V....nice old car it was.....then in '76 I bought a '66 Comet Caliente 2 door HT with 289,....red with white bucket interior...miss those old cars.

My '68 Chevy II Nova - kind of. You have to look in between the rust holes. Been gathering parts for a year now. Going to start replacing floor panels soon. Finally found a set of 'unobtanium' 1968 buckets that I'll be recovering soon too.

It's getting a 355ci Chevy and a 4-spd. I may have a line on a blower, but time will tell.

Even if you are unlucky enough to drive a Pinto please share your pics. Sorry Reeves, couldn't resist.

Started a second build. Put into storage this winter so I could have room to (try) and get the white one drivable.
I bought a (new) rotisserie last month to make it easier to work on it.

I started the fire wall / trans tunnel mods. More grinding etc to do this summer.
Moved the main wire harness hole up & to the left (right in picture). Moved the bottom heater hose up some.

Strengthen the frame rails. This one will have front engine mount along with a mid plate.

Started collecting parts...fiberglass fenders. I had my front air dam from the white car copied & now have three.

Tons to do yet.
It will have a complete new suspension.
Found a Wilwood front rotor 5 bolt up grade kit (I'll replace them on the white car as well).
I figure bigger brakes might be a good idea.

Sub frames & tubs.

Narrowed 9".

10 (or 12 ?) point cage.

After all the welding grinding etc it will be 100% blasted & epoxy coated.

Color I'm thinking is the new grabber blue.

This car is getting the light weight treatment.
No interior .All bolts will be cut to min length.
Doors are being split to remove the crash bar & to lighten the material.
New door hinges - light weight.
Every place I can shave a gram of weight will be done.
Hope to get this one to under 2000 lbs. Finished weight.

Beautiful car, nice to see another galaxie owner out there! Few and far between. Just like to point out it is a 500 and not an xl. I do know that going somewhere in a car like that usually turns out to be an afternoon and not a quick trip! Some bodies brothers cousin had the same car that could lay down 400 feet of rubber, rode like a Cadillac and could beat anything on the road!! Makes for some good conversation though.

I will try to post pics of mine if I get some computer time, I don't have any pics of mine on my phone.

66 galaxie 500 xl
390 car
96000 original miles
Now a 513
Fmx to a c6
Tru trac with 31 spline axles
Spohn performance rear suspension
550 hp, 600 lbs ft torque

A work in progress, probably never done!
Great ice cream car that goes pretty good!
When you keep it a family car the wife doesn't question the money near as much!

This one goes out to Reeves, lol.

Had her going on 17 years... before I had my drivers license. Currently powered by a mild 302/C4. I've been slowly collecting parts for a 408 stroker.

Could use another re-freshening but house renovations and a baby on the way means that's not happening anytime soon.

Nice !

FYI..... I have two of these intakes : http://mustangtek.com/Intake/C9OX-9424-B_3.html

Flow better than the equivalent Edelbrock.

Not using both.....

Good ol ford with a 1970 460 topped with a 750cfm 4v edelbrock. Lockers front and rear, it has 34" tires on it and you can see the open diff vehicle with 38's stuck 30 yards back, hehe
