Default Shark Fishing

I just booked a shark fishing trip with an outfit called blue shark charters, out of halifax! i am from nova scotia but have never done this! his website is bluesharkcharters.com....just curious if anyone here has caught sharks before and what the fight is like??? i have caught nice spring salmon and halibut on the north west coast of BC, but nothing as big as a blue shark!

I have had some experience with Blue Shark. I grew up in Ireland and a group of us took an anual trip for Blues off the West Coast. The fight wasn't spetacular, but I now realize that a lot of this had to do with the heavy tackle we were using. Most of ours were in the 80-120 lb range, and were boated within 10 minutes. I have also fished the west coast of BC & Alaska for salmon and halibut. Shark definitely fight better than halibut, but won't give you the sizzling runs of a big chinook or coho. Sounds like a fun trip, let us know how you make out

I caught a 5ish footer (not a blue shark, don't remember the species). Fought hard pulling down but didn't really run, no problem on the heavy gear we used.

Let me know how the blue shark charter went, I'd totally do that some day.

I went in Nassau a couple years ago and caught nurse sharks. It was like catching a 120lb walleye, a steady pull and head shakes. My son caught a 45lb reef shark that put up a much better fight. That was using 80 lb test on big game gear. I am leaving tomorrow for Miami and have a trip booked for the 13th flats fishing in the everglades for sharks out of a 18 foot boat with 30 lb test spinning gear. Sight fishing with light gear should be interesting.
