Tag question.

Hello all.... new to alberta last year and just wondering..... I purchased a under subscribed cow elk tag.... now does this mean I can not buy an general elk tag for say 3pt or better ?
I know I can't shoot both but now that I've got that cow tag I wouldn't be able to hunt a bull ?

Yes that is correct,you can only purchase one elk licence/tag per year and can now only hunt antlerless elk in that specific WMU for which your tag is valid....no bull for you this year.

Notice the wording under the elk section.

A Resident Adult may obtain only 1 of the first 6 licences.

Hmmm crazy.... I'm sure there is a good reason for it somewhere lol. Anyway thanks for clarifying this for me. That's how I was reading it just wanted to check. Thanks again.

I guess the “good reason” is conservation.
Yea it would nice to buy a General and try for a bull every fall and then have a late season antlerless tag for backup but it doesn’t work that way,you need to choose one or the other.
Also,if that were the case,can guarantee there would be zero Undersubscribed tags available and a big increase in priority required to draw a cow rag because everybody would be doing it.
