Default Southern Alberta Ice Report

I was out today on Horse Fly lake near Taber and figured I'd give you guys a brief ice report. The ice was 11" thick every place I drilled holes (edge and middle). This is a very shallow lake, so the ice on other deeper lakes in the area is probably a little thinner than that.

As for the fishing, I got skunked. All I caught was a lot of fresh air. Cold fresh air. But it was good to get out on the ice again.

Thanks for the report. Just got back from McVinney Reservoir and we drilled about 10 holes, all had about 12" of ice. We did not really get to far off shore maybe 6-9' of water. Oh and we had no bites......

I was at Keho Lake on Thursday at the inlet and there was 8-10 inches of ice there. But the fishing was really slow there where others about 8 in total and no one was getting bites. We stayed of about 5 hours.

Chain has 6-8". Has about 3" of slush on top of ice and then bout 6" of snow so that insulated the lake from the cold enough for some good ice build up

I walked on because the access road that I used to use 10 years ago no longer exists, and I don't know any other access roads. The snow on the ice was only a few inches deep. On the east side of the lake the drifts were a little deeper than that, but not too bad. I gotta take a look at a map and see if I can find a new access road.

Default Lake access

Most people access from the west side either straight past Wagner's on to the lake or turn left just past Wagners corals and follow the lease road and go beside Husky's fresh water pump house on to the lake.I have seen people access from the east side by Frank Carl's but you might want to ask him first.
