Default 238 elk scouting

got drawn for Nov elk in 238/236. I have seen elk in previous years while deer hunting the area so went for a scout today. Put lots of K's on the truck and 16 on my boots and doing lots of cow chirps and a few bugles. No elk seen or heard ! only 2 sets of tracks . Will get out again in a week or so.
Anyone have any encounters in the area lately ? PM if you want

The elk are in very different spots from sept to nov, and year to year. If there is anything to focus on, it would be areas that you anticipate to have good feed in November. That could be anything from thick bush to wide open crop fields with no cover for miles, and they will quickly relocate if they get pressured.

The biggest concentration of elk is on the base. There are a few small scattered herds around but they tend to stick to spots where they don’t get harassed/shot at. While I’ve seen them far away from the base, it’s always been a long rough walk to the spot.

One day means very little. Re: 238, I might see elk 1/15 days. There just aren’t that many around.

Default elk

Thanks 3 blade. Yeah I have only seen them on the farms I hunt in November, never really spent any time there in September. I am hoping they come back then.
I am usually quite a ways west of Wainwright for hunting.
