Default RPAL and Separation.

Doing RPAL course Sunday. Currently separated with agreement in place. As far as I can tell, she has to sign application? Having custody issues, not sure if I should bother if that's the case. Anybody have experience with this?

Well, they called my partner for her approval on my application and weve been together 35 years so id imagine separation or divorce would be an automatic call....she signed my paperwork too

Yeah I am thinking you are the exact person who is going to get put through the wringer making sure nobody in your life is scared for you to own a pistol. Going through a separation/divorce is rarely happy and easy and they are certainly going to want her word you are not about to snap...

Just a fact.

Had the same thing because I had been common law within 2 years of the application. They will call her 100%, so unless she is on board to tell them you should get a license then I wouldn't bother applying.

Having known people in similar situations - I'd still apply if I was you.

They will call her and talk to her
If she lies I think it’s an offence
Your not the first person that has been in this situation
As long as you haven’t been threatening her you should be ok

She just has to say that she is afraid of him, and it can cause a lot of grief. A coworker had all of his firearms seized, for exactly that reason. There wasn't any evidence of threats or threatening activity on his part, just her word that she was afraid, and a liberal judge, that believed her.

I think there’s more to the story than what he told you

Default sell to a "friend"

I sold my firearms to a trusted friend for a $1.00 and let mine PAL/ RPAL expire. I waited until we had been apart 2 years and 1 day then retook test and applied again. Bought back my guns and gave her the finger next time I saw her.. Was a risk going for 2 years but never gave that B##C^ the satisfaction of screwing me over..

They will still contact her if you apply within two years of your separation/divorce
She doesn’t have to sign it,
You can ask her to do it
Buy her flowers or a coffee or something
Tell her she looks like she’s losing weight

If you have any restricted firearms you want to make sure you have your rpal
That way, in the future, she can’t call the cops on you for being unlicensed and in possession of those firearms

Default Apply.

If she lies about things you can appeal.

Had an X lie.

They called me after. Had a chat with their investigator and renewal was processed that day.

Send it in.

After hiring a lawyer, he did manage to get this resolved, but it took close to a year, and cost him a hunting season.

Brother followed this route. When he went to reclaim his firearms, they'd sold them. Better have someone you trust impeccably.

Do not get yourself into a situation where the cops take them, they took section 337 out of the Criminal code or Firearms act a few years back, forget if it was part of C71 or C75. Cops used to be liable for loss or damage, but, not anymore. If they get damaged, stolen or lost, no recourse.

I thought this was going to be a thread about Alberta separating so they can keep their pistols and AR’s.

Many years ago my ex was called about my RPAL. Not an amicable split, but they called her & she agreed I should have Restricted.

How tough is the custody issue, will she do the right thing? Good luck!
