Default New Primer Plant

Friend posted on an other forum about this new primer company , White River Energetics based out of Arkansas.
Not sure if we will see any up here in the near future but anymore production is a good thing.

Great to hear of a new start up.
Seems like everything is being consolidated and bought up by the Czechs...

I expect he is talking about the Fiocchi plant, primers will be lead free, may not be avail to reloaders, same as Hornady, who is rebuilding theirs from the explosion a few months back. The new one in Texas apparently has all theirs spoken for too. Haven't seen anything said towards the Hornady plant expanding at all, probably SOL on that too. Fiocchi already had an ammo plant in Missouri. CCI makes lead free primers too, not sure if they are even avail to reloading side, although that may be part of why they are the price they are these days with them, don't recall them advertising that anywhere though.

Why can't a primer plant be built in Alberta?

Trudeau would probably pass a law to ban it.

If a younger person than me could get some type of police or military contract to provide ammo they could probably get the finance.
I wonder where they currently get ammo from? I bet there is no bidding process and probably corrupt.
Would be nice if they had fair bidding process and would give out small contracts that a normal person or group of people could have a chance in starting a company

The regulatory, and insurance issues make it a losing proposition for any business model.

NRCAN licensing, environmental assessments, zoning and permitting, building code, liability insurance and WCB for the short list.

Well, there have been ammo plants in Canada, got squeezed out by foreign sources, they were foreign owned to start with. Companies like Score are probably having a tough time with supplies, not real likely to improve any time soon by the look of it, hard to say what is or what will happen to them over the next while. Unless you are exporting product, you probably would not survive on gov't contracts in Canada. More ammo sales in pretty much any state in the US than in all of Canada combined. Lot of competition down there too, in the various markets and for resources, all the small ammo mfgrs have to compete with or buy from the big guys for components. I doubt if environmental and insurance regs are all that friendly to the industry here in Canada either. US claims they "can't" build another plant like Radford Arsenal anymore, due to that. Can't expand it, as they are out of space too, and if they run out of capacity, or have a big shutdown, every ammo plant in the US and Canada will be limited by it, next closest plant is in EU, and it only has one plant like that too.

Primer plants are strictly controlled by the feds in the US. It is very hard to get approval to build one. Seth from Hornady stated this on a podcast I believe. Basically the feds have to determine that there is a need for more supply. With the wars going on, the civilian market has been reduced which is exactly what the Libs and Dems want. Hard to shoot guns when there’s no ammo.

That is a new supplier by the look of it, White River Energetics out of Des Arc Arkansas. Fiocchi plant is in Little Rock, Lone Star is in Texas.
Apparently owned by a D&M Holdings out of Tampa, ammo mfgr.
They signed some deal with Ukes at the last US Arms show, when Zelensky was there this month, hard to say if there'll be much left for aftermarket sales.

Turns out that CSG group, that's the people buying Vista, also has a majority share in Fiocchi, and just bought Perazzi;

On utube there is a guy making black powder at home with pretty good success. Actually using toilet paper for carbon. But looks very doable.
Same with percussion caps. Some having better success than other methods.
You guys that are low on primers have you ever looked into making your own at home?

In”think” it’s a lot different to make percussion caps than primers.
In Canada getting the chemicals for make either caps or holy black is very difficult.

Haha.... I am sure they buy all their ammo in the back alley's of Edmonton, just like all other criminals.
