Jofree and red deer area

Will be working out in Jofree from May-july any good spots in the area all I can think of is stauffer and red deer river

Hey Dave I would suggest Burbank park by blackfalds it's where red deer flows into blind man . It's a busy campground mid summer but fishing best in spring at the mouth . Lots of pike , walleye and mooneye and Goldeye

I grew up in Red Deer.

The RDR and Stauffer are about it, unless you are willing to hunt some pike in stillwater. The RDR is an under-appreciated fishery. You can catch pike, walleye, goldeye, whitefish, and brown trout. The fishery changes as you move upstream to the dam. Once you head a little further west, there are Ram rivers and upper Red deer, which are not too much further than Stauffer. To be honest, you could spend that time just learning the RDR.

During run-off in June, instead of the RDR, you can fish Stauffer. It is not a fishery for the novice. If you are going to go, expect to get skunked. But being spring-fed, it does not really suffer from run-off. It is also incredibly satisfying to catch a fish from that stream.

Upstream from Red Deer, I have caught some of the nicest brown trout that I have ever seen. There are not many, but they are generally quite big. I catch one ever year---they are spooky and skittish, but really worth the hunt.

dickson trout pond, is a great place to fly fish when stocked. usually gets 20000 fish , a ton of rainbows. Campground right next to it, great view of gleniffer lake, great streams around to fish. Great getaway

The RDR between Gennifer dam and Sundre was great in the past. I know the spill affected the fish for a while but I'm sure it is still fishable. Google map and you will see a few access points. Used to catch nice brookies there a few years ago.

I think they're changing the regs back to normal for 2015 because they got results that the fish are now healthy , please confirm if you know, I just heard from somewhere

I did read that in the new regulations in the new changes section.

Apr. 1 to Oct. 31 – All species limit 0; Bait Ban.
Nov. 1 to Mar. 31 – CLOSED
from Forestry Trunk Road downstream to Gleniffer (Reservoir) Lake and tributaries, (except Burnt Timber, North Burnt Timber and North Raven River [Stauffer Creek])
Apr. 1 to Oct. 31 – Trout limit 2; Mountain Whitefish limit 3 over 30 cm; Walleye limit 0; Pike limit 3 (no size limit); Bait Ban.
Nov. 1 to Mar. 31 – CLOSED

Central alberta has lots of great water other then Stauffer and the river. All the streams in the rocky caroline area hold heath populations of browns and all have produced browns over 24" for me. Pick a quiet spot and you'll be alright. I find its better to stay away from the overly crowded and over fished Stauffer unless your willing to find away to get away from the crowd. Explore and you'll be rewarded central alberta has great fishing throughout

hey bud i'm talking about the new regs set for mar 31st 2015 - mar 31st 2016

My spot of choice for in the city fishing is over in maskepetoon park.
Its just outsode of oriole park, look it up on google maps. Feel free to shoot me a a pm if you want company at any point.
Lots of whites, goldeyes, and walleye. The odd pike as well.

I've lived in Red Deer for 20+ years, spending a great deal of time in Oriole Park, Highland Green, Lower Fairview, etc, and have never once heard of Maskepetoon Park lol.

I've been on the other side of the river to this location and have often thought it looked good!

Perhaps we'll see each on the river sometime this summer!
