Default Kootenay Sept 2016

a few of my pics from the week. Started in the Kaslo area then moved down to Kokanee Creek campground and Nelson the rainbows sure have beautiful coloring in the lake!

caught my first one on a black/silver apex

they werent kidding with the bear signs, had them posted everywhere and a lot of the trails closed. the bears didnt care they were all over the place first day there were 8 after that 7 so either one wandered off or was removed. they were quite well behaved though, lots of close encounters with campers but the bears always gave way.
it was great seeing them pouncing on the salmon in the creek, its much more impressive in person.

this is the first we "almost" ran into at the mouth of the creek, it wasnt happy about the fence so we left it alone to do what it had to do. my little camera doesnt have much zoom, this was pretty much straight up

snagged a floater on the lake so I could see one up close. not very pretty after they spawn out and die

Love Kootenay Lake. Planning to go there first week of Oct. We stay at Schroeder Creek campground just north of Kaslo. Sounds like you were trolling with Apex lures. Were you using down riggers? ( if yes how deep) Lots of rainbows caught surface trolling with buck tail flys behind planar boards. Determined to catch a big Gerard one of these years although I know the big guys have been scarce last few years!

Good post Wayne. Should have slipped in one of your fat azz Walleye pics just to make me a little more jealous.
