This morning the small pothole lakes west of Edmonton were iced over completely. Would imagine people will have a go this weekend. I'll give it a few more days this year.

The only ice I wanna see when fishing will be in a cooler, keeping the drinks cold while I fish somewhere warm...

Nice job on one early season fish

Good news on the weather. Nothing is forecasted even near zero around central for the next 14 days. AccuWeather for Edmonton is forecasting maybe only 2 days in the entire month of November that might hit 1 degree. The bigger lakes will be early as well this year if this keeps up.

It was within an hour of Edmonton. Ice was about 1 1/2 " I had to use my sled to disperse my weight, thankfully the pond gets deep fast so I didn't go out more than 10 feet from the shore.

Default Thoughts in mountain lakes?

Wonder if the lakes up in the southern rockies, west of YYC will be more frozen. Thinking of putting on the snowshoes, grabbing the hand auger and fishing a mountain lake this weekend.

Impressive to be ice-fishing so early, but that's too early for me. I'll wait for probably at least 6 inches to walk out, better safe than sorry in my books. I'll likely wait for 18" to take my car out. I'm sure it would be safe at 12", but you only need one or two guys in big trucks to drive up and ask how the fishing is going to make that 12" not so safe anymore.

Ice will be getting thick fast with the temps around edmonton at the -10 or colder. Should grow 1/2 " per day if not more.
