Take a kid fishing...just do it!
I went up to Floatingstone/Garner lakes this weekend and had an awesome time, caught well over 50 pike and walleye. I went with a buddy from work and his family. Saturday afternoon we took his 8 year old daughter out in my boat to try and get her first fish. I rigged her up with one of my rattlin raps and told her just to hold onto her rod tightly as we trolled along. All of a sudden her rod bent over and she screamed "I got one!!!". Her little arms couldn't handle the power it had so Dad took hold of the rod while she reeled in the fish.
The excitement in her voice when she hooked it was awesome, brought a huge smile to my face and an even bigger one to her dads. The excitement in her face when she landed the pike was priceless, reminded me of when I was just a little guy fishing with my dad.
As much of a pain as it can be untangling their lines and listening to the complaining about being hungry/thirsty/bored etc it is all very well worth it when they catch one. I don't have kids myself but I can't wait until I do and I can teach them the awesome sport of fishing.
In a world full of mindless time wasters such as Facebook and Twitter etc etc I think it is very important to take kids out fishing and hunting so the traditions never die.
I am still waiting on her dad to send me some pics and I will post them as soon as he does.
