Default Savage Vs. Remington model 710

Still waitin for the old PAL, and noticed that C-tire on Macleod reduced the price of their Remington model 710 combo to $330 from $380. I don't know anything about the remington, and have previously decided on the savage 7mm combo. That is, unless you guys can tell me if the remington combo is a good buy. I seem to recall better reviews on the savage in terms of bang for your buck at $400. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Moults

1000 X over take the Savage you will regret the 710 Just my Opinion.
The 710 does not do the remington name any favor's but it is cheap

I don't know about Remington at all but I had a Savage in 30-06 and with a good Leupould scope, I could hit 3 bullets on target and all 3 holes were touching each other on the target at 100 yards.

i have a remington 710 in 7 mm. it is hidious and the action is no where near smooth with that stupid plastic "self lubricating" sleeve but even with the cheap bushnell it shoots 1.5 in. groups at 100 yards plus i don't feel bad when it gets abused in the feild and it is the lightest full sized rifle i've ever carried around the bush (cheap plastic stock to thank for that)
when you spend 300 for a combo i guess you can't expect alot but it's light and accurate which is all that i care about it has put deer in the freezer for a few years now

Savage, Savage Savage

I believe that Remington has replaced the 710 with another model and is blowing a cheap gun out the door at reduced prices.

Savage beats the r 710 anyday. I have heard a lot of bad things from people with the 710. It seems everyone has the same opinion on this, and that is saying something. My uncle has the savage package in a 30-06 and he loves it. The safety alone is better.

Friends don't let friends buy 710s.

Default Buy the Savage

You guy's are making it sound like he would buying an inferior rifle if he buy's a
Savage. Savage known for being one the most accurate rifles out the box and the accutrigger is an awesome feature.
Go buy the Savage and don't feel like you have an inferior gun I would buy it over most of the higher priced rifles out their.

just for Sh!ts and Giggles, i took a remington model 710 in .270 win, off Craftyhunters hands so i had one of those "a friend that wants to hunt but has no gun, Gun", "dont care if i get it scratched, Gun" or a "Back up Gun(dont need those really) "

i even harassed him while doing the transfer that "Friends dont let friends own remington 710's" i took this thing to the range with some others. it out shoots my tikka in 270 win, and damn near cloverleafs at a 100 yards with federal fusion 130 grain ammo.

while shooting it, i was overly disgusted on how well it shot, and kept trying, waiting to see it fail. it even functions flawlessly for me, and i tried slamming the bolt closed and open trying to break off the bolt handle that it is known for, it wouldnt.

my overall review on it, its ugly, it points nice, shoots well with proper ammo, and its ugly. Did i say ugly? About as ugly as any savage rifle ( bring it on)

i might dump it off to someone who is in need of a good starter rifle that doesnt have much money, but i think i want to dump at least one animal with it just to say "i killed it with a freakin 710!!!"

Default Another 1 for Savage

Bought one of those Savage combos last year in a 300 Win Mag, The rifle is great but it came with a cheap Simmons Scope & rinngs that need replaced. Still a good deal at uder $400 for a brand new rifle! IMO buy the cheapest gun you can afford and the best optics you can afford and you wont be sorry.
