Default Barnes TSX Seating Depth

A question for those of you who load TSX bullets. Barnes recommends seating the bullets 0.03 - 0.07 off the lands.

How far off the lands do you find works best?

Thanks all!

I shoot a 270 WSM and tried loading 140 gr Barnes TSX BT @ .050 thou off the lands to begin. Results were not bad but not good so I played around with the seating depth but couldn't get them to shoot much better than ~1.5 MOA. Barnes recommends starting somewhere in the middle and moving out or in from there. For what it's worth I ended up going to the 140 gr Accubonds and they are very accurate in my rifle.

I shoot the 140 TSX in a 7mm-08 .030 off the lands. This is where I started and it is very accurate.

I seat ine to about the bottom of the first groove. It is more off the lands than what Barnes recomended but it has a half inch group for my gun that way. Each gun is different and you just have to try different depths to find what works.

There are no hard and fast rules for bullet seating depths. While most rifles shoot Barnes bullets best at 50 thou plus I have 1 25/06 that hits its stride at .003.
Your milage may vary

Whenever I load Barnes bullets for people I START at .050 and go t=from there.
I've loaded some in the past for myself, and my 6.5WSM was originally throated for the 130 Barnex X.
I don't load many for other guys however, three in .338 cal. , two in 6mm, and 2 in .30 cal - plus I have some 250's for my 9.3X74R but I haven't messed with it yet.

I load my 30-06 with the 168 grain TSX at .050 off the lands. Started there and seems to shoot better than I expected so I just left them there.
Im new to reloading and I suprised myself with the luck I've had with the TSX loads. Wish they were cheaper though.

1/4" or better, probably closer to 5/16"
anything closer and the pressure goes nutz

Thanks everyone. Think I'll load some up at .05 and see how it goes.
