Default butchers

Does anyone know of any butchers or somewhere near Spruce Grove that would fillet your fish for you?

It really is not that difficult. Best bet is to go with someone in the know and have them show you. Until then, catch and release.
Most butchers will prep and smoke your fish for a reasonable price if you want to try smoked fish. But still, you need to gut them and put them on ice.
I learned from a book how to gut and skin a deer, you should be able how to figure out how to gut a fish on the web.

Its very simple .I dont know what kind of fish you want to fillet but here goes nothing .

*step 1
Give the fish a quick wash in cold water .

*2 Lay the fish on its side on some news paper over a cutting board .

*3 Make sure your knife is sharp

*4 Make a cut just behind the pectoral fin , thas the first fin along side right behind gills . Make an inward cut until you hit the backbone .

*5 Turn your knife around cut from the first cut all the way down the backbone to the tail .

Do this on both sides
*6 Lay your fillets down put the head and guts in garbage ,
*7 Take your knife from the Tail but angle your knife and pull the skin back then you will have a skinless fillet .

For trout Cut the head off cut the belly openall the way to arsehole pull out the guts , and good to go .

Here is a really good video .

understandable that if you have never been shown how to do it that you wouldnt know. best thing is to have someone show you. BBJ did a good job explaining the just of it but its still hard to picture if you dont know what your doing.

but i will offer you this one piece of advise........Get the right knife to do the job! dont use your wives meat cleaver!!!! its shocking how much difference the knife makes. not that its impossible to do with other knives but proper fillet knives make your life simpler

My personal fave is the cheapo Rapala 4" knife with the stainless blade and wooden handle. I haven't fileted a fish this year big enough to need a 6" but I did get the black handled, black bladed one for christmas and I don't care for it as much because the blade isn't as flexible.

The way I got good at it was to go trout fishing with the fish whisperer and gut every fish he kept. He was catching 4 fish for my 1 so I took the opportunity to practice.
