Default Slave Lake - Aug 1, 2012

Still one of my favorite lakes...

Just pics:

All in all between us we kept 3 walleye, bang on at 45 cm for them all.

Fishing was slow for the first 2 hours, as we arrived at 8 AM and maybe caught 5 eyes over the course of the first 2 hrs.

The next 6 hrs were solid non stop, caught tons of 4-5lb eyes, total caught about 70 fish.

Love Slave, except the 5ft swells.

awesome buddy, going there Friday so excited, here's a rookie question for you, what you do with the fish you wanna keep? you stun them and put them on ice? you bleed them out? probly a few things I could do but what's best? I mean directly after you decide you are keeping this fish....

Great looking eye's Graff, the last pic...the walleye is so dark! Thats how you know they are healthy!!!

NSR Monger.
If your going to keep the fish just kill it right off the bat by hitting it on the head hard. Less stress on the fish over all and it may even affect the taste of the meat compared to a highly stressed fish sitting on a stringer or in a live well. But choose wisely hahahaha The worst is picking that 45cm walleye only to land a 53cm a few mins later hahahaha, although you could let the 45cm go and never catch another thing

yeah that's what I would do. If your going to eat it then just do it quick. May get blood all over the ice if you don't clean it right away. Remember not to cut the tail or head off until you are ready to consume it as per reg.

sorry OP I know we off topic.........snoochy, when you say I might get blood on the ice by doing this, does this imply you bleed the fish out b4 you put it on ice?? I'm for sure a rookie at this, all advice greatly appreciated!

I have been talking to my friend who is up on Slave right now. He says the fishing is slow due to lots of sediment being tossed around.

Yeah it was a beaut.

The one that got away on us in the process of measuring we got it at 63 cm on the board, until a 5ft wave came and he slid off the board over the edge back into the water. :P was going to release him, he just wanted back in sooner I guess!
