2016 Cougar Hunt
My wonderful wife got me a guided cougar hunt for my birthday. We ended up going with Wayne and Cee Jay Anderson out of Rocky Mountain house. We did not have any idea of what to expect on this hunt. My partner and I have hunted all kinds of big game before but using dogs and chasing cats was a whole other experience. We had an absolutely awesome hunt and shared some very cool experiences. We passed up a nice female cat we treed on the first day. It was only about an hour into our hunt so I made the tough decision to pass it up. You know how that goes, there is always some bad Karma about passing on a really nice animal. On our second day we ended up on multiple cats at once and one of the dogs got dragged by a cougar for 50 feet before we got to the dog. The dog looks like it will be ok and hopefully will come out with an even bigger hate on for these cats.
On the day we got our tom we found fresh tracks and set the dogs out. The dogs lead us right to a fresh kill with the Cougar bedded beside it. The dogs pushed the cougar out and we had a 2 km long chase on our hands. Ended up getting a great Cat and thanks again to our guides, they are excellent at what they do. We had cold conditions but everyone on our hunt was on the same page and everyone was up for the challenge.

My BIL used to work in the oilfield with Wayne. Wayne's a top notch cat guide.
He guided my BIL and SIL to a real nice Tom and a female.
Congrats. What an awesome gift

Great cat, great adventure. Have you had a chance to weigh and measure him yet?

Congrats on a great tom!
Met Wayne when I worked around Rocky cpl years ago and spotted all the hounds, stopped in for a good chat and hope to book a hunt one of these years.
We used to run coons and bobcat back in my youth back east,so cougar is way up there on my bucket list.....just to listen to and chase hounds again will be awesome in itself!

I actually started on the apos website. www.apos.ab.ca And started looking for a cougar guide. There are not that many so it made the search fairly quick. I looked at the ones that had a website and came across one that sounded like suited our hunting style. We did not I st want to sit around and what for a phone call that they cut some tracks. We wanted to be involved in the hunt not just th ending. When I called him he said he other commitments but recommended the andersons. I also looked at some of the other posts about cougar hunting on the this forum and there were some good posts that mentioned some guides. I highly recommend them and would be glad to pass on their contact info.
