Question Need a 2nd or 8th opinion (mechanic guys) dodge folks....

My 2000 Dodge 2500 developed a problem last night. After consulting some guys at work I had a good idea what to check for ect ect. My daytime running lights and my low beams (which are pretty well the same thing other then when I turn my low beams on I get my clearance lights too) They flicker while im driving or stopped. They dont flicker at first but after being on for a bit. This is my first dodge and I dont know if they have a control module for the lights, or if the daytime/low beam are on the same circuit.

The boys from work told me to check grounds ect. Everything was good, no corrosion or loose nuts. Ill be calling around after work tomorow but Id like some thoughts. Any ideas on what to check or where the modules are? I will head to pick a part to swap out modules to see if thats the problem.

I cant have this flickering problem while im driving, its annoying and will probably end up getting me pulled over for bad equipment.

Not sure of your truck, but headlights are usually on a resetting breaker instead of a fuse. It may be weak, or possibly you have tied additional loads into that circuit.

I think there is a relay in the fuse box that is under the hood. That may be the culprit.

i had the same kind of issue, only instead of lights it was the speaker in my drivers door.

it would cut in and out and be really quiet and do stuff kind of like "flickering"

i pulled it out and there was water in the plugs.

maybe check for that? i dried them off and now it works fine.

Yep relay, I was just looking at schematics and they haven't used resetting breakers in quite a few years from what I can tell. My bad.

I used to have a old ford van years ago. One time coming back to Edmonton from St.Paul after dark, the lights would go out every 5 - 10 mins then back on. Turned out the ignition switch had to be changed out. It would heat up / lights out. Cool down / lights back on. Only found the problem cause the next day, someone I just happened to be talking too had the same problem one time, "not a mechanic". I got lucky with that one as I could have been chasing my tail for months trying to find a lose wire or bad ground. Search the net and see if anyone has had a simialar problem. Ignition switch now days could be very expensive and hard to change out, air bags and security keys and stuff.

Could be the multifunction switch has crapped out.

on the left inner fender there is a black box just below the battery , that is the daytime running light module , unplug it and see if it straightens out . google a picture so you know your unplugging the right part.

i would put money on this, i had a similar problem with my 98. The new part will cost you about $200 at dodge, its a 5 minute install.

Just spit balling here.Without being a Dodge guy-it sounds to me as though it could be an alternator issue, specifically an internal voltage regulator.
I would idle it in the dark with the interior dome light on to see if it is strobing.

Remove the fuse for your daytme running lights. If this fixes the problem (dtrl wont work) change out your dtrl relay.

Check and see if the alternater is charging up and down. Could be the voltage regulater. I just went through it with my chevy.
