I think they tend to stay close to home in bars they're familiar with.

With the equipment and access today there isn't much to getting cougars. Cold weather doesn't bother much, snow conditions are important though. I suspect quotas will fill faster than usual this winter because of good conditions.

I've been holding off setting snares because of two using a bait.

Yep, they sure are easy to catch these days. Any guy out there with a couple SPCA muts can put those big toms up just about every day ! lol

Got ya. So anybody with 150K or so in gear and dogs and years of experience can get it done pretty easy.

Hard to believe that everybody isn't out there cashing in on that money tree.

I know of a couple guys that have got hounds in the last couple years and are catching cats. Big thing is the time commitment and pounding the roads in the right conditions to pick up a track...a lot easier to sit by the phone and wait for a call from an outfitter

Perfectly true!

$150,000 investment to hunt cougar is so far beyond ridiculous it's hard to comment on. Outfitters have to put on a show to catch those wily beasts.

Perhaps you can fill us in on the costs of operating Ivan.

You listed the equipment after all. Remember we aren't driving around in uncle Cleatus's 1981 Ford 1/2 ton out there. lol

I don't have an uncle to bum off of and no spca to get a mutt from so I guess we'll just have to go with your $150,000 cougars.

Well another way is to pick up a wealthy cougar who can sponsor your cougar hunt.... But then you will have to perform on par with Ron Jeremy....

I heard from a co-worker that the WSF has allowed the cougar outfitters a bounty to kill cats anywhere where there is sheep. Has anyone else heard about this ?

True, it's $4,000 per cougar. This is the second or third year. $300 per wolf all along the foothills.

I have contacted them several times and searched the sight for the particulars regarding this program, can't find it. Why is it only available to Outfitters?

Default Bowzone Cougar

My brother got a cougar back in November in the Calgary bowzone. We got a few pics of it on our trail cameras in early October. Then twice had it growl at us while we walked back to the truck in the dark. Scared the hell out of us. Then one morning while up in the tree stand, he spotted it walking towards him about 90 yards away. He drew back his bow when it got to about 25 yards and shot. He is getting a full body mount done. I bet there is not a lot of people that have shot a cougar with a bow without the use of dogs. I would think it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I doubt very much if that is in fact true but it may be, doubt it though.
Makes for a good troll story however!

Uh-huh....if you had actually contacted any one of our directors "several times", or even once, which you obviously haven't, you would have been given any details and information that you were looking for. Contact numbers for all board members are available on our website, and any one of us will be happy to talk to you, assuming that you're genuinely interested, and not an anti.

Default cougar

I know this week spending 5 days out all day in the west country running around an being at it from 3AM to 8 PM at minus 20 to 30 degrees would have to be a tough way to make a buck.......
And I can bet there isn't many that would change places with the few that do it........
