Sako A7 vs Browning X-Bolt Stalker

Hello all,

I'm in the market for a new center fire rifle. Probably a 308 Win, just do to the fact that it will be a heavily used range gun, although it will be used once a year for hunting. I have looked at both the Browning x-bolt stalkers and the Sako A7. I aim to keep it at roughly $1000. What is everyone's opinion on those two rifles? What else would you suggest.

Just curious why you are looking at lightweight options for a range gun?

I have had both guns and love them both, both guns are accurate and if you are a target shooter then you will obviously reload. I played around with my Sako A7 quite a bit and found very nice load which was giving me groups of three bullets touching each other at 200 yards.

I sold my A7 308 last year, and went to Sako 75 greywolf as I wanted a higher end model with more bells and whistles.

X-bolt is good too, I had nothing against it, but Sako was a better rifle hands down. Sako bolt is one of the best bolts out there and moves very smooth with minimum effort on your part to cycle rounds.

I have had Tikka, Savage, Weartherby and Browning and Sako was on top of them all.

But remember everyone individual will like their rifle differently then the other, I like Sako and you might not like it at all and probably like a Savage. Go to the gun store and see which one fits your shoulder the best and then get it.

I bought the A7 this year. 7mm Rem mag. Shoots extremely well. You can't compare that bolt action either, it's almost as if its rolling on ball bearings!
I'm with sheep hunter about the lightweight rifle for target shooting as well. But it will be nice to carry around on that one hunt a year.
Maybe the T3 Varmint would be an option for the bench.
