Default looking for pike in Lac La Biche

This is my first winter here in Lac La biche. Trying to get some info on ice fishing.

Been out a few times for perch and caught one decent pike. Lost a big one on a tip up.

But, of the 7 times I've gone out, 2 pike biting can't be great lol.

Where do you go for pike on the ice on lac la biche, and what do you use?

Back where I'm from, tip ups with shinners is what we used. I have been using frozen smelt here. Not so productive. Maybe its my location.

Cheers.

Have caucght lots of sloughsharks at beaver in the last 20 years fishing there.try on the south side in the big bay across from the fire wardens camp or in almost anywhere near weeds. usually best before dark.we used tip ups with smelts but also a jighead with a shiner worked good and you had a chance for pickeyes or perch.

I know several spots where you can catch monster Pike on Lac La Biche. PM me if you're interested. The Churchill Park causeway is fantastic for Perch and the odd Pike, but I would not go there specifically for Pike (although I have caught several Pike there between 10 and 18 pounds).

I've found Square Lake has really gone down hill over the last year or two. The lake has risen 3 vertical feet and flooded the entire shoreline. I think this has had a significant effect on the fishing, as I have caught only one small Pike in the past year.

There is another lake worth visiting if you're looking for Pike and you're ambitious enough. It's in the sandhill country south of Atmore, but you will need the farmer's permission to cross his yard, or take a maze of trails through the sandhills south of Plamondon. It's called Powder (Island) Lake.

Looks like I'll have to give Square Lake another try!

For tip-ups I use a silver spoon with a smelt anywhere from 1 to 5 feet off the bottom. But I usually jig a spoon with some minnows on it.
