Camping in Montana or Washington state.
The missus and I are looking at a long weekend in the USA at some point over the summer to do some tenting and antiquing. Never been to the northern USA but i've heard it's pretty.
I'm sure some have been, what do you recommend?

If it was me, I'd get off any main trail deep in Montana, some great little hidden gems as in old towns.

Search US state parks. They are top notch. Our long weekends are almost the same as in the US, you have to have a reservation. In younger years we have camped from WA to N California. The first beat would be Whitby Island state park.

Crescent Lake, Washington. biggest birch and alder tree's ive ever seen. It's west of Seattle though.
I know you're a fishing fanatic like me so perhaps this might be more to your liking and it's closer. Lake Pen d'Orielle Idaho. One of the mods was down there last year I think, pretty sure it was Pixel but can't recall. It held the WR for rainbow from 1936 until fishing geeks broke it btw.

In between is Idaho, also very nice! If you have kids in tow, they'd love Silverwood

A real gem is the Yaak river campground near Troy MT. Campground is at the junction of the Yaak and Kootney rivers. Beautiful row of spots backing on to the river

What's that place called, Canyon ferry? I think that's it, ive been bow fishing there, it's a Great Lake and the store has showers, cabins and cold beer. They rent boats and although we were there for carp I couldn't help but notice that the daily walleye limit is 20! If you're a fisherman is take a look.
