Default Hunter Group-Draws

When your entering in your draws and it asks you if you want to add anybody to your group, how does it work...

Example-

My Dad puts in for his Bison, adds me to that group.
I put it in for my Bison, I add him to my group.

Do we both still get a chance at drawing for the Bison? And what benefits do you have in a group?

I guess im asking what the ****** a group is! I have never understood it.

Thanks!

Either you both draw, or neither of you draw.

No. Either you both get your own tags or neither of you get tags.
It goes by the person with least priority.

Only benefit is you would both have the same tags to hunt with each other. If you call that a benefit. I suppose it depends on your situation but it hasn't ever been appealing to me.

No! Whoever you put in your group (max 4 people) either you all get drawn and each of you have a tag, or none of you get drawn.

Hope that clears things up!

Only real benefit is that if you are going on a trip to hunt somewhere, this will ensure all people going will have a tag to hunt with, that's about it! Don't forget if your priority status is different the group gets drawn according to the lowest persons priority.

Now it makes sense... Definitely un-appealing to me!

Thanks everyone!

It's appealing if you want to hunt a species with a friend, a long way from home, as we often do. If we are driving ten hours to hunt pronghorn, each of us is going to have a tag.

Now I'm confused. As a group do you each get a tag (for separate animals) or does everyone draw a tag for use on a single animal (so once one person in the group shoots one, everyone else is tagged out too).

I always thought it was the latter.

it is the former, no "party" hunting in Alberta, except I guess the Youth partner tag...

There you go, I was thinking of the moose partner draw not the group draw.

Terminology will get you every time lol.

At least I didn't argue with anyone, might have been embarrassing.

A friend and myself put in for late season elk together. If we get drawn, he has his tag, I have mine. If I get my elk, he still has his chance for one, or the other way around.

For us, the late season is something we would do together and that's it, so it works. Or for some of the reasons above. But for general season, unless it's something special, I can't see doing it.

I like to hunt elk with my sons (adults). If they weren't drawn and I was, I wouldn't be too happy hunting alone. Plus I might not get drawn next year when they were. A group application ensures that doesn't happen. Either we all get drawn or none of us do. If the latter occurs, it's almost a certainty we will get drawn together next year.

And just to be clear, if drawn we all get our own tags, and no, we can't hunt each other's tags.
