Default Buffalo Hunt

Been pretty quiet lately about how the buffalo hunts are going up at Zama. Heading up there in January so been hoping for more success stories or tips. Also if successful, does anyone know the best place to get the hide tanned.

You should have went opening week. Me and a friend tagged out opening day!. I got a herd bull and he got a cow with his bow. I shot mine NW of zama and he shot his south of apache plant. Lots were around the hay zama lakes but who knows where they are now. They are wanders and follow there stomachs. Figure out where they are going and use google maps too get ahead of them. Wait for the ambush and should be easy peazy. Hardest part will be locating them. Just drive around until.you find them. Pm if ya want.

It's supposed to be bison but that's gay sounding compared to buffalo!

Thanks James_B. I was told to wait till later as opening week is a zoo. Some of the threads I have read almost makes a guy wonder if he made the right decision. Would have been nice with the limited snow when you went and the pics were nice.

There's a Hutterite Colony near Cardston called Riley colony that does skins and furs. They did 2 buffalo for me so far.

Edmonton Fur Tanners I have heard is fairly good... I've never used them.

Ya opening day was the best as in terms of weather. It wasnt actuslly a zoo from what i noticed. I think everyone had the mentality as you being a zoo opening week. I hope its not a zoo for you when you go north.

Be prepared for a seven foot tall [top of hump] 2600 lb animal...there is no ground shrinkage with these guys...they get bigger the closer you get to them...

Always the option of hunting in one of the no tag required areas. Size of the expedition required has always intimidated me, it's a hell of a long ways from home.

Looked into the DIY option myself for the no tag required area, I figure by the time I did it I could go for the same money with an outfitter and not have the headache of organizing it

Not sure if you are serious or not but that made me laugh... No offence intended, I was thinking about the sheep threads and resident guides...

Would be a hunt to do either way...

There is no priority. It's just a draw, some guys have been picked a couple times.

Got that right, got one last winter that way. Figure we were almost 90 miles from a Hwy where we got my cow. -35 in a wall tent for 5 days, modern day adventure for sure. I want to go back and only settle for a big bull this time. This was a mid sized cow. But the rug & euro'd skull look awesome and the back strap steaks are unreal good.

And that's the same bison draw that you put in for when you put in for when you put in your other draws ?
