Default Perch lakes in southern Alberta

I'm looking for a lake with good sized keeper perch. I've been to Burnstick, caught some at Gull and Badger. Not looking for anybody's honey hole. Just seeing if there's any other lakes to try.

Thanks

Not really. Unless you're willing to quit your job to hunt them. I don't understand the obsession over dinky perch.

Sherburne (grassy), yellow and forty mile are your best bets. There are some good ones in Travers but extremely hard to find and very few of them.

Big slab perch are a rare bird anymore in alberta pretty much anywhere. Get a strong year class and a bunch of 6 inchers you best keep an eye on that body of water and in a couple years you got a good thing. Unfortunately the way the walleye are so poorly managed, strong year classes rarely make it to finish the cycle anymore. They get gobbled up as fry because the balance is in the favor of the walleye which is a day and night ruthless predator.

I would agree with everything you said, But I think they get gobbled up by everyone that thinks they have to keep there limit every time that they go out.

I agree in what your saying too exept some lakes are stunted and the perch never seem to get much over 6" no matter how long u wait

I tend to pull out a map and pick a spot that has some decent depth, fish and relaxed pressure (not a lot of info) I use a pattern as well first I find the deepest part of the lake and work my way towards shore then repeat in a different direction. Tomorrow I'll be at elkwater lake it has two great trout lakes just minutes around it and one AWSOME trout lake under an hour away so it's left somewhat alone and has perch in it also most guys are after pike in there. Wish me luck

I've specifically made trips to arguably the best perch ice fishing lake in North America, Devils Lake, ND. I love perch fishing.

Been there to, love that place. I usually made a combo devils lake and Lake Winnipeg trip. Day to drive to devils, fish 3 days, leave devils after fishing day 3 and drive the 3/3.5 hours to Selkirk, fish lake Winnipeg for 3 days then drive home the next day. 8 day whirlwind trip of hardcore fishing. I now NEED to get to Cascade in Idaho, just need someone to make the 12 hour trip from Calgary with me or do it myself like I did the devils/Winnipeg trips a lot.

And people wonder why. Every perch pic on here is a sink full or 10 on the ice.

There is a balance; some of these lakes need to have the population of perch brought down 30% or so then we will see slabs again. Large lakes like Gull and McGregor do have slabs in them. You just have to find the schools that hold them.

Not sure which lakes you're fishing but I would say there are more reservoirs with walleye numbers that are too high than reservoirs that walleye aren't an issue for the remaining species...

That's something I'd possibly be interested in doing next winter!
