Canadian “Jeopardy!” phenom Mattea Roach stands to reach a new milestone if she wins another game airing tonight.

The Toronto-based Roach, who spent part of her childhood in Halifax, extended her remarkable run last night with her 18th victory on the TV quiz show.
The 23-year-old currently has the eighth-longest win streak in the program’s history.

One more win moves her up the list into a three-way tie with 2005’s David Madden and 2019’s Jason Zuffranieri, who both won 19 games.

As of Thursday’s game, Roach had collected a total haul of US$438,183.

She has also earned a spot in the show’s Tournament of Champions, set to air in the fall, and holds the longest win streak by a Canadian contestant.

Roach lives in Toronto, but she has said on the show that she spent her childhood and part of her adolescence in Halifax, and has also lived in Calgary and Moncton, N.B.
She had another excellent opponent last night and answered the final jeopardy answer to win a large pot.

It was a slug fest in the second round. Again she showed great poise and patience and determination and focus. For a 23 year old how can one not be impressed.

Also I am amazed how much range of knowledge she has. There are categories I can answer half of them. Some the odd one I can get. Many I don’t have a clue.

Incredible.

Keep it going Mattea. Proud of you accomplishments as a fellow Canadian! Hope you set a new milestone today and next week.

You are in the tournament of champions which should also be exciting.

I believe her biggest?

She bets conservatively. On one hand suggests she lacks some confidence in her ability and also shows she is humble in her skills.

She seems to be betting strategically for the win and protecting her lead whenever possible.

Is there a chart or something, for where she ranks, and when/if she will overtake others ahead of her?

She learned a lot of trivia playing the board game Trivial pursuit, a game older than she is from a time when families played games around a table before the electronic gizmos.

Always been a trivia fan myself

You go girl!

She did great...unfortunately on her final game her math was off by $400 on her last bet. She bet more than she needed to guarantee the win.

Maybe she just wanted to go home. I often tell loud mouthed buddies and not so buddies that the guaranteed way to keep them perfectly quiet for 30 minutes is to put them on Jeopardy.

I’m glad someone mentioned that, her math was off a few times during her run. Should be a great tournament of champions.

Her math was correct. She bet enough that if her opponent bet everything and was correct and Mattea was correct also, Mattea would of won by $1. That was her strategy. Math was right, answer was wrong.

Your right about that as I calculated the math. She did that 2x, I think her strategy should have been to play for the tie instead and then go into a playoff.
