I went through this. You are best off buying oEM replacement housing and use regular headlights.

Polish them with a Cerakote kit. They're cheap on Amazon.

Here's a before and after. Headlights were so bad that I started with 800 grit. I took the headlights out and polished them in the kitchen sink. A year later, they still look like the one on the left. One kit did the headlights on this car, and the headlights on dad's 2001 Chev. I had to get extra wet/dry sandpaper, and I kept the paper very wet.

I have a 2004 Dodge 2500 diesel with possibly the worst factory headlights I've ever seen, I installed an LED kit and am quite happy with the results compared to the 2 candles that came from factory

I upgraded my F150 headlight to the Morimoto system and could not be happier! Top shelf construction and the difference is truly amazing. Looks awesome too!

In most cases, simply cleaning up the oxidation on the surface of the headlight will make a huge difference. Even a little bit of oxidation on the plastic's surface can reduce light output by over 50%. The big problem is that with a small amount oxidation, the headlight holds more heat inside, increasing the rate of oxidation causing an exponential deterioration of the quality of driving light.

I've been there and done that a few times with multiple different vehicles. The Cerakote kit is the best I've used. Last kit I bought was $35 on amazon.

I was going to mention these too Bob (I love the set in my Tacoma!) But I don't think they make them for an '01 Dodge Ram, I was going to post a link to them but couldn't find any for prior to '08.

I put LED's into an '05 dodge. Fantastic on low beam, sucked on high beam. Weren't built to throw LED light.

Go with a set of something like this. Pretty cheap fix for what I'm guessing will be great lights.
