Default Suggestions for a newbie

Hey everyone. Quick question for you all. I have a 8' pontoon and I was curious for any suggestions where to go within the 2 1/2 hr drive from Edmonton that would be pontoon friendly and with decent camping ? I'm new to fly fishing and would like a smaller body of water. Thanks in advance for the help.

Make sure your boat is big enough for the species you are fishing for!!! For real though you could try star lake or muir.
Sorry edit, I didn't see the camping part.

I hear Obed lake by Edson has some good size fish. And if you get bored of the lake there are some good streams in the area.

Thanks crownb for the tip. I have common sense thanks. By the way I'm rushing out to buy my p-rigs right now. I see you missed the camping part .......hmmm I take reading & comprehension is not your best quality eh. Tip: trying reading slower and read it at least 5 times. Thanks for all the other response's. :-)

Big enough??
I doubt if he's going for pacific sturgeon nor King Chinooks within 2hrs of EDM.....any smaller species should be fine.

Can we just leave the ugly to the general discussion board please. A little class.

Can't say much for the area north of Red Deer, as I don't know much about it. But, any lake is pontoon friendly. Lakes to not bother with, are the ones where you encounter water skiers and the Sea-doo crowds. There are recreation lakes, and there are fishing lakes. Going on some of the bigger water is when you want to put on a trolling motor. There are times when rowing against the wind is futile, even on smaller waters, and occasionally that will happen. Like when T/storms are approaching.
