Default Backwards Leupold Standard Bases

Has anyone ever tried to attach Leupold bases so that the windage bolts are under the front ring?

I’m working on a Savage Model 12 with an over sized bolt that doesn’t clear the windage bolts. Other than looking funny, would this set up work?

I had to use Leupold bases with the windage screws as your having described in your situation.
Mine was on a long action Weatherby Vanguard...no issues other than a little cosmetic that was functional.

As long as the screw holes on the bases line up to the holes into the receiver then there should be no problems.

It depends on the rifle, in some cases the screw holes line up, but the base height is different, or the top of the receiver is slightly different.

I know for sure you can mount them backwards on the Savage model 16 with the bottom bolt release. I did it on a 7-08 to get the scope far enough back. It should work fine on the model 12 too as it has the same receiver. That would solve your bolt handle problem.

Is he not asking to mount the rear base on the receiver ring?

He was and that won't work but reversing the base on the rear of the action will fix his over size bolt handle problem, which is what he was actually trying to fix if I read this right.

Thanks, Dean2. I think that’ll work.
