Default advice for fishing North Sask river by Spruce Grove

folks, i have always lake fished, and when younger river fished the sturgeon river. but i havent river fished in decades.

was thinking of fishing the north Saskatchewan this weekend by spruce grove for pike and walleye. will spoons, jerk baits, rapalas, and large spinners work?

Default North sask river by spruce grove

Probably your best bet is to try to find some slower and deeper water. Inside bends, back eddies, creek mouths, or anything that causes the water to slow down. Then try using rubber bodied jigs with a piece of a worm attached. Fire it out there, and slowly drag or hop it back to you. Black is a good colour to try. This time of year the walleyes are really starting to bite. Good luck.

I have never fished the North Saskatchewan but I fish the Peace River more then any other water. It's just a ten minute drive from my house.

I expect the two rivers might be very similar to fish.

I find the best fishing in three places along the Peace.

In the order of my preference they are;

At feeder streams, in deep pools in or near the mouth of the feeder.

At back eddies at the head of the eddy in the current break. Best place for Walleye.

In the deeper slower parts of the eddy for pike and Goldeye.

If the water is murky I use bait when legal.

When the water is clean I use double twister tail jigs or spoons mostly.

The Peace is murky most of the summer so I am not the best guy to advise anyone on what lures to use.
