Default Need suggestion about parking boat in hotel's parking lot overnight

Hi All,

I am planning a fishing trip and need to park the boat in the hotel's non-covered parking lot overnight. I will cover the boat with the cover but is there anything else I should do? Like, remove trolling motor? What do you guys do when you need to park the boat outside overnight?

Thanks!

Put a lock on the hitch if you donít already have one. Either take off the trolling motor or put a lock on it.

Take out depth finder, rods, tackle box and keep them in the hotel room. Kind of like leaving your boat at the dock/marina overnight. Take out anything worth stealing.

Thanks!

Any idea to protect the outboard? Lock it on the trailer?
Consider I empty the boat, it is better with or without boat cover? I am thinking maybe boat cover will gain some unnecessary interest.

Make your your boat and contents Insurance is adequate, and you have documented what's in it. Then we ask desk clerk n leave it where they can sorta watch it.

Depending where the hotel is located there could be a fenced cold storage rental place nearby. Would probably be cheap enough. And more secure and safer.

I like covers as it makes someone go the extra mile to start snooping. If they see something without a cover it’s a quick in/out. If it has a cover they can’t readily see what’s there so they’re taking a higher risk that they go to the effort and find nothing. I always try to park under/near a light and never backed up to an alley or street.

Have your significant other sleep in the boat.

I always get a room with window viewing access to observe my truck often.
I'm OCD during the night on such things.

I did it in Slave Lake on the long weekend just passed. wasn't an issue, but made sure to take out my trolling motor, fish finder, tackle box, etc. Then I locked the trailer via swing tongue lock, coupler pin lock and, coupler ball lock. (I even plugged in to the parking lot plugs to charge my trolling system)

I also got insurance prior to doing this though (at the suggestion of others on the forum) at it sure made me sleep better.

I ended up getting the insurance from Boatsmart assure, the same organization I completed my competency exam from, and the rate was really reasonable, and the coverage as well. (Note my policy has $5k "electronics" coverage with only $250 deductible.)

Reason I say that is we met a fellow on Lac Ste Anne this past weekend that told us about his FF being stolen while getting snacks at the grocery store, and I mentioned the insurance I got......where that would have been covered.

Install a pair of tamper resistant bolts on the engine.

I bought a wireless motion detector ( driveway alert) from CT and placed it in the back of my truck when at a hotel. Any motion will set the alarm in my room.

Thank you all!
I am already been back from my trip safly.
What I did is paid an extra 15$ so I can park my boat in kind of a VIP/Employee underground parking lot.
I will apply some of your awesome ideas before my next trip.
