Default Out of Treestand With Bears On Baits

Hey guys, I know there are some experienced bear folks on here and I need some advice. What is the best way to get out of a tree stand with a bear still on the bait? OR do you wait until they leave? I know ideally they would leave but at our baits they seem really comfy and hang out for upwards of a couple hours on occasion. Anyone have any good tips? Baits are about 20-25 yds from the tree stand. Thanks.

Yeah, that's what we normally do but having been mock charged and a couple years ago we had a boar that would not leave us alone as we tried to get down I was wondering if there were other tips to help.

Most move off but there are those that are possessed I'm sure...lol

Had a young sow one year that charged us if we sat one step on first climbing spike...threw a bottle of scentless mosquito lotion at her and hit her in nose...yup that just ****ed her off...shot the bait barrel with shotgun SSG...noise just peed her off and she swatted the crap out of barrel...
we waited to pitch black...she was still there...but we got down and moved straight back away from her ...she didn't budge...

It seems in the dark even thou worst for us ...the bears use more caution and are not as aggressive...

I guess there's no real tricks. I have heard of guys using flashlights, apparently their eyes are sensitive and they don't like the bright beam, but have never tried it. Always fun when you can't get out on your own terms.

If you break a couple of small branches on your tree they will leave. If u don't have any branches left, take a small dead branch from underside of a spruce in stand with you

I never really worry too much I just leave and they normally scurry off but making some noise should scare them off. Sometimes they will just watch you leave but if there is a sow and Cubs at the bait you will want to scare them off before getting down. Shooting a blunt at one of the bait barrels would scare them off pretty quick I bet.

Ya read on it... wasn't that last May 2015...

Anyway a good example why never lose your fear and common sense with any bear's...conditions may make a bear do what it has to survive if it has it in its head its going to eat a human..."shoo bear" or playing dead isn't going to be the norm here...

Common sense dictates that when in Bait stations I carry a 12 Gauge...not because I am scared of bears but have seen individuals that are just nasty.

I have tried the breaking branches thing as well and it really doesn't seem to be that helpful. Any other ideas?

I hunt alone quite a bit so I prefer if there are no bears on the bait when I leave. Blacks can be unpredictable as well.

Could be I read it just the other day but maybe it was a repost I was thinking that there were fire bans in BC currently as well and having a fire was odd so very well could have been.

^ If I saw a black sow with that kind of appetite, I'd stay in the dang tree with the shotgun pointed down. Yikes. She sure made it through winter
