You used to be able to catch a few bigger pike here (as well as perch)before they implemented the minimum size limit for pike.In the two or three years after, the perch pretty much went away and the pike size dwindled down to where it is today. While it is possible (like any lake)to catch a decent pike there, you will probably have to catch 100 eighteen to twenty-two inch long fish to do it.I don't fish here to much anymore(AND I live at Wizard...maybe two or three times over the summer) but I bet it has been three or four years since I last caught a "keeper".But, like someone said, it is great for kids. And if you catch the right weekend in spring a guy can catch 100 or more pike over the weekend. They just won't be big.
And you can get on the ice at the far West end of the lake as well, both on the North shore and on the south shore. The south access(where I live)can get REALLY icy and the first little bit up is a bit steeper than the rest. One time I even had to drive across the lake and go around the end of the lake on the gravel roads because I could'nt climb back up the bank into my subdivision in my 1 Ton Chevy 4x4.And another time I had to tow my ford escort up the hill with the Chevy.
.................................CAUTION.......... .........................
To anyone driving on this lake........There are lots of gas pockets under this lake, and they perculate all winter long, meaning that there are lots of open holes in the ice. Some of them are in the same spot year after year, some are not. They range from 3 or 4 inches in diameter to one that usually is about 80 feet long and 8 feet wide. Most of them(but not all) are West of the power lines and within about 125 feet of the South shore. BUT THEY CAN BE ANYWHERE!Lots of people drive all over this lake and if any body here does, drive slow and PLEASE be carefull.
