Give me a heads up to what day and time and I'll try to make it work.
If there is a vote....one side meters and one yards.
For two reasons, can shoot the meter side set on yards to get varied distances. The other is outdoor FITA is a 50m max....that's the only range I know where we can shoot in meters.

Easy for you to find time with a beauty moose in the freezer eh?
I'm out of town this week but next week might be slow, Let me know if you are able to get equipment and when. I'll see if I can make something work.

Ooh, cheap shot! Guess who put all the 3D targets away? Would rather have been out hunting. Thanks for the offer of help. Will keep you posted as to when.

Wow, is that disappointing.
I've been seeing broadhead holes in the target butts for as long as I've been shooting at the range, and on several occasions found .22LR brass and corresponding targets with bullet holes in them at the archery range - which is terrifying given that the entry roadway in direct line-of-sight. (I talked with 260Rem about this on a few occasions; he was aware of the issue.) So I'm not really all that surprised.
I didn't manage to shoot the new 3D range, but appreciate that you rescued the targets before they were further damaged. To clarify, have the tentest butts also been pulled down?
Regarding moving at least some of the butts to yard distances: YES PLEASE!!! If a work party is announced, we'll do our best to pitch in.

I would recommend converting only one side this fall. All I need is the new holes spotted and I will arrange augering when the eqpt is on site. Holes would be covered ... waiting for a volunteer crew to disassemble the existing butt frames and reassemble them. Equipment and volunteer crew do not need to be on site at the same time so there is flexibility.

The tentest butts have not been pulled down and won't be until the holes for the new yard markers have been drilled. At that point, we will take down the butts on one side and reassemble them. The posts will have to be moved and tamped down, then the butts put back together with the newer material put into the center of the targets. If anyone can possibly help us out, please let me know and we will contact you when the work date has been confirmed. Probably in a week or so.

what are people talking about? They are in yards already. 11,22,33,44 and 55 yards. When does an animal stand at 30 yards exactly? It's good practice.....
But truthfully, I think one side for yankees rounded to the nearest tenth is a good idea. I may even help if schedule permits - please let me know.

It was only a matter of time. While I was typing my yards/meters response I was thinking someone would be pointing out exactly that.
After all, this is the archery section. We're more particular about details that don't matter than the reloading guys haha

They are about as good as it gets. Try to move the point of aim around.

The point of broad heads is to make a mess. I use broad heads for tuning and a check up prior to hunting season, otherwise use field points. I'm fortunate that they fly pretty similar out to the range in comfortable hunting to.
My 18-1 is a few years old and still has loads of life left.

This is F'ing brutal. As if "said members" don't know the damage they are creating! I'm sure it's quite obvious to the naked eye. I absolutely adore our range, make excellent use of it, and appreciate every second that I'm out there. It couldn't be posted more clear and there was already one blanket warning/information bulletin sent out. These losers need to be held accountable for the damages. If they plead ignorance, get them on film and charge them. And then when the time comes to escort them off the premises, give me a call and I'll come assist.

I may be able to give a hand, not sure I'll be a ton of help but I am good at just being a grunt if need be.
When more details come up let me know if you need more help.

Unfortunately there are a few jakwads out there...and not just on the archery range.
At the rimfire range last week the place was littered with at least a hundred of the cheap SKS centerfire brass.
A couple of the steel plates (which are lighter duty than the centerfire counterparts) were all shot to crap.

No doubt it is on camera...If the time frame can be narrowed down it would be easy to enforce...but if not, it can take a lot of time reviewing the video....and therein lies the problem. Perhaps the club will someday find volunteers to do that kind of sleuth work?

Where does one have to go to monitor these video taps? Are they at the range or the SPFG office? I, for one, would certainly be willing to do some sleuty work!

Archery Range Work Party
The new holes for the yardage target butts are to be made on Wednesday this week. Saturday Sept 24 will be the day of the actual work party. We will be starting at 10AM and would greatly appreciate any and all help you can give us. Tasks for the day will include taking the old target butts on one side of the range completely apart and moving them to their new location where the support posts will have to be tamped into the ground for 20, 30 , 40 and 50 yds. The target butts then will be reassembled with the new tentest. The orange fencing unit that is the same as those used on the gun ranges is broken and will be removed. We also need some clever individuals to figure out a way to install cameras in wire cages that can be hung from the shooting building to give us a view of whats going on at the line. Obviously, these will need to be in locked boxes. Hopefully, we will have a good turnout as many hands make the job much easier. Any further questions, feel free to ask. Thanks everybody for all the support with this broadhead issue.

Me too.
My wife and I have used that range in particular, quite a bit in the spring and early summer and really enjoy going out to the range (in general). This summer I was out of town a lot so we didn't get out at all in August but last time we were there someone had blew a hole in one of the metal spinner targets. If it takes some video sleuthing I can lend a hand.

It would be good to find out how much length of video is stored. The sooner the better because often these things just loop and only save a certain amount and it would take a ton of expensive digital storage space to keep a long period of time on file

If not enough people can give us a heads up as far as helping next Saturday, we will have to put the project on hold. It's too big a job for just a couple of people. Would try to do evening but it just gets dark too fast now. Will confirm by Thursday if we will be doing work party Saturday Sept 24.

And by the way, official shooting hours for the archery range are the same as legal hunting hours. That's what I have been told.
