Default Jasper Alberta fishing

Anyone ever fished near the town of Jasper? Any good lakes there. I'm going there at the end of this month.

Ive fished Moab, Medicine, and Beaver...all were good - I fished Medicine in the fall though when it was just a stream though...some big rainbows in there. Moab has some decent lakers and some huge bulls and a million little rainbows. Beaver had lot's of 1.5 to 2 pound brookies...I don't know when all that stuff opens up though, earliest I have been there was in late june

Not a lot of lakes will open season check regs. Ice may not be off till late may. Athabasca river has good holes for whitefish and bull trout. Husky jerk if your spinning, Clousers and prince nymph if Fly fishing.

Make sure you get a park license and follow the regulations.
Here is a link to last years regs.

a Husky jerk is a lure from Rapala.

It is a soft mile. Pretty easy hike. When I fished it you could see the fish in the lake. just tossed a bobber and a fly out there and let them find it and whammy. It was too easy.

I've also fished the Miette river west of jasper. Cought some brookies there

haha I know...I just cruised that weedline...they were flying out of there. There is some decent grayling in the first creek you come to entering the park ...I also like fishing the confluence of athabasca and maligne - I have caught a lot of wild rainbows in there (small but beautiful fish!!) Lot's of bulls in the confluences of rocky and the snaring to the athabasca. Seriously though, if you have never fished medicine lake in the fall it is worth the trip...I broke off on some huge rainbows and lost about a 4 lb brookie at my feet. Ton's of smaller fish too.

Another good spot to try is the Athabasca above the falls. There will be this picknick spot on the side of the road surronded by trees. The picknick spot is on the first bit of a rising hill on the way towards the athabasca glacier. Walk dowstream for about half a kilometer and there should be a big pool full of trout. The rainbows don't seem to average very big though I have seen a 2+lber brookie caught out of there once. Depending on the year, day, and season, they will either prefer small mepps spinners or flys.

Last year I fished Pyramind Lake from the shore and had a bite from what I think was a laker. I believe fishing at that lake would be much more productive from a boat though. I'm not sure if pyramind is open at the end of April either.

The crazy thing too was that when I was back at the picknick spot with my buddys, we saw this large cow moose run into the lake 10ft away from us and that moose was only 2ft away from a familly we saw. Shortly after, we saw a wolf chase behind the moose then run back up into the bush. The familly that had that the chase happen right next to them, without any hesitation packed up and took off alarmed.

Nice, I have used Rattlin raps when fishing up in the Yukon and have seen large char chase the lure. My father and I have used various rapalas and find that nothing beats the Rattlin Rapalas.

Sonny, great photo. Were you fishing in the park or closer to Hinton? I'm just struggling trying to find accessible water in Hinton right now...too much for unsafe ice along the edges...for me anyways.....
