Have always put them back but I guess if they weren't native to that specific ecosystem and were causing an issue to other game fish then that would be the only occurance I would use them as coyote bait but as long as they are natural to that lake, river, stream, etc. I will be releasing them back down the hole, just cause I've never eaten one or will not be trying one in the near future lol doesn't mean it has to go to waste for someone else or serve its purpose in that ecosystem.

Speaking of burbot I caught a few last year on cold lake and they had a lot of tiny worms attached to them anyone know what they are or seen this before?

I always drill a hole about 50 meters away from where I'm fishing, and use it for Hammer Handles and Suckers. Never will I ever leave a fish on the ice. My father would roll over in his grave, then come to haunt me.

Pretty stupid and irresponsible if you ask me!

I have been going to PCR for years now and have seen the decline. What really bothers me is that they reduced the burbot limit from 3 to 1 in most places..

Doesn't make sense at all

Unbelieveable. If you read some other replies here you would see that while you don't value them, others do. What would be the harm to just throw it back down the hole? No one is forcing you to take or eat it. Leave it for someone else. There are many animals that are legal to kill. Do you kill every one you can, just becaue you can? Curious.

'Cause we need more crows and coyotes. I look forward to your upcoming posts about shooting and leaving coyotes on private land because there are too many of them. LOL

I give up. Some folks just wanna kill stuff.

I see discarded burbot laying to waste on the ice at several of the lakes I fish. I feel it is just that a waste, furthermore be sure to check the regulations as many lakes have protection for burbot and several central lakes have implemented closures for them to protect from overharvest.

If it's only because the netters don't have a market for it - then it still should not be OK for everybody to do it. But it is legal

they are one ugly fish no doubt, but the pattern on them is so cool. not to mention they do get pretty big. Burbs are one of my favourite fish to catch.

What can we do as a community to change the law and make it illegal to waste burbs? That is what this discussion should be about.

It's hard to believe that anyone would try to defend wasting edible fish.. I just don't get the point of this practice! Just because it's legal? That's insane!

1) I find it hilarious that this is even thread.... Cause if someone actually says 'yes', then you get rant all day about it. Seems dumb.

2) Now that the thread exists, I'm not sure why some of you are feeding the trolls (cough, Esox, cough, Crosbyfan, cough). You know their responses are strictly geared to riling everyone up...

Actually if you check the results, the names of everyone who voted yes or no is listed and public. Everyone I've come to respect or who I feel know what they are talking about is in the "no" group. Not commenting on the tiny "yes" group, don't know any of them. Just commenting on their position.

^ THIS!!

If you (as a group) feel this is wrong, then vent your anger towards the authorities that make that decision and help change it, not towards people who are following legal regulations.

Wouldn't that be like hating "trophy hunters" just because you personally feel it's wrong?

I honestly feel the OP just made the poll/thread to elicit a response and/or an argument. Did he just discover this little nugget of info and then decide "Hey I know..I'll post this up and see who bites". Otherwise, why make the results public, if not to only stir up controversy.

Since the first thread a few years back, many of us wrote - it in -, not sure who received replies but from that date to the current regs, not much changed.

i made it to see how many actually do. Ever go to PCR and see how many are just lying on the ice, or are frozen in the ice?

Default Burbot quiz ...

Why are Burbs called Lawyer fish in Ontario.

In all my years on fishing forums ,the only Burbot discussion
I have ever seen is on here . It's a desperate fishery , when
A fish that has a voracious appetite and definitely impacts our
Meagre true game fish like Pike and Walleyes commands so much
Discussion .Just so you know
Baby Burbs are a very poor Pike Bait .They are a fresh water cod
So they taste ok ,not really a surprise ... But they are so ugly ....
And the slime ...I usually cut the line ,then burn the equipment .
Apparently ,the English Angler won't eat them , and they eat stuff
That most of us wouldn't recognize as a fish...
I,m with the Dave, a thread designed not to be informative
But more Shiite Disturbing .

http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business...02_165388.html

Maybe we need a festival....
