Default Couple Bulls Down

Well a buddy and I travelled September 12th to the secret honey hole for Elk. We anticipated just sitting for the first night to see what there was for action and to see if the bulls were active. Was gonna try to hold off shooting anything because my 77 year old dad was traveling out later that evening for the hunt. Well the action was crazy on that first night and I couldn’t pass up this bull that had 20+ cows in his harem. Got to hear his last bugle then when he turned broadside at 350 yards I squeezed the trigger on my 300wsm and placed one right in the money spot behind the front shoulder. He quickly ran out of air and expired 100 yards from the scene of the crime. This picture is my view walking up to him. Bull #1 down. Notice his harem hanging out at the tree line still waiting for their lover.

Well Dad made it for day 2 of the hunt just as a spectator. Just along for the ride and to take in what nature had to offer. We went for morning hunt but it was super windy. We seen some bears and a few deer but pretty quiet for the elk. Great day to be sitting beside my dad in the great outdoors.

After our morning hunt we got mine to the cooler then got out for our evening sit. And once again the country came alive. From our lucky sitting tree we seen 8 bears and 30 some elk.

About an hour before dark I let out a bugle and we heard one way in the distance behind us. Gave him a few minutes and again he replied. But still a long ways off behind us. 10 minutes later out he comes with a cow and a calf at 250yards he let out a bugle and I replied with a cow call and he turned broadside and my buddy let his 26 Nosler bark and another perfectly placed shot behind the front shoulder. Bull #2 down. What a great hunt. With a couple great people. Filled the freezers and some more memories for the bank.

Here is dad and I with my buddy’s bull. This man taught me a lot about the sport of hunting and was glad I could share another hunt with him.

Congrats. Awsum pics and a great story. Ya know what they say a pic is worth a 1000 words. Those should be 2 good eating bulls. I’m surprised the elk are hanging out there. It doesn’t look like there is much for them to eat except thistle.

Taxidermist sent me a picture of the Euro mount completed already. Looks good. Just need to make time to go pick it up. If you are wondering what’s taped to the horn that’s the wall mounting bracket that he supplies.
