Default 2023 pronghorn

I thought I would share my pronghorn hut.

I did two full days scouting including a tour with one of the landowners who gave me permission.

The home work paid off Opening morning I located one of the bucks and his herd I saw the day before. When I started the stalk I did not think it would work there was no structure to the land or a blade of grass taller than about 8 inches. But I crawled on that open prairie only moving when the antelope were feeding, it took just a little more than an hour to get within 300 yards when the herd bedded down. I decided to close some more distant down to 270 yards to a spot I could get in to a comfortable shooting position. The buck still bedded looking away I waited. then I got luck and a coyote walked past promoting the buck to stand and giving me a perfect broad side shot.

Good looking pronghorn. Always good when a plan comes to fruition.

There was lots in both wmu's when we were down on a gopher safari on the May long. Lots of the herds went north to the Hanna area and down into Montana when the big late snowstorm went through in late April/ early May but if anything I saw more in the area than the 5 previous Mays

Yes. The land owner who showed me around commented on how many they had around this year, however my tag was for the 150s

Thumbs up

Congrats and thanks for the story of your adventure. They are wonderful to hunt, tough waiting 12 years for trophy or archery hunts? I have to wait as I shot trophy in 2018 and archery in 2022. All the best!
