Any open water
Anyone been or live south and seen if there is enough open water at Clear or Twin Valley? A few of us are looking for a place to get some lines wet on the weekend outside of river fishing or get drowned or fall through the ice. Just need enough to get the lines in not the boat was the thinking.
Thanks

we should all get together and build an ice breaker boat...... drop it in the lakes in early season, break up all the ice to help it all melt faster

Ken I heard that clear had quite a bit of open water on the west side. PCR by the bridge as well...but I guess that will close today. Else anything in central ab has lots of ice, so wink wink brookie spot should still be great as well as beaver opens as well which can be super fun.

yes I heard
Chris
I heard there was some open water down there. Jeff and I were discussing a no ice no flood water and get drowned place to go. I mentioned the trout hole but not sure how that will be to drive in. Might be a lattle nasty even for my tall 4x4. Thought maybe a river excursion or maybe Clear or Twin since they are still open and I know from the past years some areas melt out nicely for early season pike.
Just for a fun day and get out trip.

I've never been to Beaver this early in the year with ice still on (I'm assuming you still ice fish it at this time of the year?). Lakes with aeration scare me a little, how far offshore do you need to walk to fish it? For some reason in my mind I have a hard time imagining any ice at all on an aerated lake.
Beaver is one of my favorite lakes in the summer and if you can actually ice fish it, I'd love to check it out.
With all the warm temps lately I'd imagine the brookie lake is impossible to get in without a quad although it's not really that bad a hike.

Fishing
There is a storm warning out for tomorrow if we can believe the weatherman. Looking at the forecast it looks nasty tomorrow but the sun is supposed to come back out by Sunday aft. Maybe a quick trip south and try some open spot pike on the fly or bait or whatever. I am not sure about ice and or deal with flood water and go swimming.
Lets see how things look unless somebody sees something good that works or if the roads west are ok we can do the other idea we discussed with a lunch stop. That could be a weather permitting for sure.

There's always Spray too. I've only been out once there this year and I know the ice is good there usually until May.

Yep, but LOTS of snow still so I hear, so I'll pass for a bit.
Still going to go Sunday though, don't care what the weather is like!

Yes I stole this info but it was posted publicly so what the heck?
If you guys are going to be in that next of the woods definitely check out the Raven. All open water and you'll get lots of species:
