Default PAL renewal speed

I renewed my PAL online August 3rd, the new licence was issued August 11 and I already have the new card in hand. Lightning fast, finally some efficiency for my tax money....who would have thought!

Am I right assuming it was an electronic renewal?

Correct....didn't think that made much of a difference though.

A friend had theirs within about a month as well. RPAL. Funny thing is there was no verification of a gun range membership provided nor asked for.

Regular mail submitted paperwork is moving slower than a snail’s pace.

Less than 2 weeks for me. Did it all on my phone. Took a selfie for the pic. Really fast and easy. I often wonder what the gov't knows about those people who are still waiting for their's after 6 months or longer.

X 2 ...

I sent my PAL renewal with a money order, in the middle of June 2020,

I called yesterday and the lady said they haven't even started on the June mail-in pile.

Next time it will be electronic all the way.

I’ll have to do mine again soon.
Can you please remind me of the online steps?
I have my login info somewhere but don’t recall what I’ll need for the photo. Is it just a passport photo? How do you get the digital version?
I did this ohhhhh about 5 years ago and I rarely remember a week ago haha

It’s all there Kurt, any other Q’s just drop me a line, it’s easier than doing an EMT.

Electronic renewal is the only way to renew. If you have your pic ready to go the application takes less than 10 minutes to complete.
Renewed my RPAL last month, day 2 credit card was charged, day 5 the application showed as approved, card arrived on day 16.

I did my renewal online June 7. Still nothing. Have called and they just tell me there’s a back log, last time I called was Thursday.

Wife sent in her paperwork to get her PAL beginning of July. Don’t think she will have her license for hunting season. Sadness.

My brother never had to verify the membership before but he called after 4 months of waiting for renewal and they denied it because he didn't provide the verification. So he just shipped everything off and hopefully gets something back before November...
Seems hit and miss right now.

I did mine online in February and had new card in under 3 weeks. I was happy with that.

My electronic renewal was done March 26th and I received my card middle of June. I have seen wait times all over the map be it electronic or mailed in renewal. It’s never consistent. Joke of a system

3 months after I applied for my renewal... website says it’s in the mail. Now let’s see how long it takes Canada Post to get it to me.

I mailed mine snail mail last week and it expires mid November.

Is that enough time..?

What if it expires while sitting there not being processed.

Completed my renewal online back in early August and had it in the mail not even two weeks later.

What if it expires while sitting there not being processed. You are not going to get charged for illegal possession, as there’s a 6 month prosecution amnesty in place if you filed your paperwork. With that said it doesn’t allow you to be out and about with your firearms, a LEO can seize and hold them till you present a valid PAL
You might want to find a hunting buddy or two, who have valid PAL’s and be damned sure you’re within arms reach of buddy while packing.

All is not lost. I’d wait till right after thanksgiving and start phoning about your renewal, after 3 calls to the CFP(Every other day), if the renewal isn’t coming your way(mid Oct) then get hold of your CPC MP and get them to enquire on your behalf. Betchya you have your new PAL by mid November.

It’s called jiggling the system, just be respectful when dealing with the CFP on the phone.

I send in my renewal application at least 6 months before it expires, and that is without the delays caused by covid. I have waited from 3 weeks, to 5-1/2 , months for a new PAL to arrive. You can apply as much as a year before it expires, and the expiry date will still be five years after the current PAL expires.

Default Fresh off the press.....

Well here you go guys, you make up your own minds:

On June 03, 2020 I sent my PAL renewal application in by registered mail, with a money order enclosed. My birthday is October, plenty of time right!

As of this writing Sept 26, 2020, I have still not received any communication/explanation; ZERO; regarding my mail-in application or my money order.

So I called in and spoke to a fellow by phone. He told me that, any PAL renewals applied for in June, is still not yet being processed.

So, I asked him what to do? He said go on-line and redo my PAL application as it is much faster. He assured me my money order would be refunded once they get it.

On Sep 11, 2020 I followed his advice and re-applied on-line.
On Sept 24, 2020 I received my new PAL renewal in the mail.

So for those of you who have no options other than snail mail, then sorry for your luck. But if not, then on-line PAL application is the only way to go... IMHO...

Good luck,

Heads up: the "new" application process is a lower priority and slower than the "renewal" process... according to the Miramichi guy I spoke with.
