Default Getting started?

I am looking to start hunting this fall. I live in Calgary, born and raised from BC, and grew up hunting moose around Prince George. From what I understand, moose hunting in Alberta is draw only? So in the meantime, I will have to start with elk and or deer.

I need help getting started. I am familiar with the gear end of it, but unfamiliar with what areas I should focus on. I am unsure of where to go to gain access to crown land or where the animals are. If anyone is kind enough to help with any tips or advice, I am thankful. The closer to Calgary, the better. But really, I don't know and need some help to get started.

Moose is a draw so start building your priority. IF you can find access in the Bow zone you can hunt moose on a general tag. They are there but you have to look and get the permission. Sorry not a lot of help but until you build priority, you don't have a lot of options.

Try to make sense out of this first off.
http://www.albertaregulations.ca/huntingregs

Grab a county map or ten with the landowners on it. Some are available online. Spend the summer checking out places, you will get help here as well.
Use the search button please before posting questions about these regs etc. Whatever questions you have there is probably a few threads with answers if you dig and it may save you some grief. That said, dont be shy, lots of good guys here willing to help.

Welcome to God's country.

I am also from the Prince George area and live in Calgary and when I came here and started hunting, I just did some research and spent time in the field to learn where I could and could not go. Reading threads on here is a good start. I got a cow moose in 2013 and it was near Calgary on crown land.
