Canadian rifle stock makers
So operation wicked awesome hunting rifle has been approved by the minister of war and finance. I am going to need a custom stock built for this gun with a piece of wood that would make bob villa cry. Does anybody know of any Canadian stock makers who may be up to the task? Unfortunatly martini will probably be a bit out of my price range.

Bob at Custom gunworks can do a nice job as cam Milcun precision, or Jason at Gunco in Ottawa
I don't know of he is up to it these days, but of you could convince Bill Leeper to do your stock I KNOW it would a great one as well!

Ive been trying to get a hold of bob for 2 days now, but he's probably a busy guy. I know how hard it is to get any work done when your phone is ringing all day. I didnt know he built stocks, does anybody on here have a walnut stock he made?

Try a stockmaker in Leader, Sask. I think the name is M&S Gunworks and his name is Kerry Stricker. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I had Chris Weber in Kelowna do a shotgun years ago for me. Used to be called Waffen Weber, I know he has changed the name and taken on a partner now.
He is operating a setup similar to Hagn-Martini now and is still in Kelowna.
Seen a lot of his stuff over the years and it always looked pretty good to me anyway. I think Weber is still in the name of the business.

To fit, bed, and finish, I would expect to start at 600 dollars and go up from there. Parts (like recoil pad or sling swivels) would be additional. Ultimately, it depends on what you start with and what you want as a finished product. When you figure that any semi-inlet will probably require two days work (16 hours) to bed and prepare to finish, you can understand why I think 600 dollars is a reasonable starting point. Any additional work (forend tips, grip caps, checkering, etc.) would add to the total.
Lew Bates, in Taylor, B.C., does very nice work. I think Klaus Hiptmayer may still be stocking rifles and if so, he makes nice stocks. I'm sure there are plenty of good stockmakers who are unknown to me. I'm not a stock maker except for myself. Leeper

Need advice on this wood for strength and quality
Would like to find out the updated take on the top three stock makers in Western Canada who are still doing their trade with perfection.
Attached some wood I am sitting on the fence with on whether to bring home or not. Any advise on how strong or suitable this wood is would be appreciated.
Double barrel shotgun.

Another side of the wood
Here is the other side. Are the grains going to be a problem?

David Henry would likely be able to help. He is on here from time to time. I am sure there are many others but he is just one man that I know makes beautiful stocks.

Any other famous makers in the West
Thanks for the Henry suggestion. Which town does he work out of. Any other suggestions other than those in Cranbrook with the falling block which I may contact as well?
Any one know who is doing silver plating or gold plating these days on parts?

Mr. Henry is close to Rimbey, AB. Can't remember if it was on here for sure but I saw a post a while back somewhere of a stock that he made - beautiful to say the least

Call Don at Holden Precision
Hi: I suggest you call my friend Don at Holden Precision. I saw some of the stocks that he has done for other customers and they looked well done.

DAVID HENRY. Your search can likely begin and end with his name. The stocks he has shown on AO are nothing short of stunning.
Just had to try the font buttons

Jakob Strasser and Calgary Shooting Centre is a German apprenticed master gunsmith specializing in stocks. He is young but does some pretty amazing stuff.

I myself once handled a Martini made rifle. The wood on it was fairly average in grain and appearance but the stock design and checkering was sure a piece of quality craftsmanship. Give him a nice piece of wood and I'm sure you would end up with a beauty.

Here's another option: if you google MCRS Tactical The guy's name is Chris. Out of Calgary. He's done 2 stocks for me now, I'm happy with both. His service is excellent. Turnaround time for the first was 2-3 weeks. It's a T3 .204 heavy barrel stainless and I got him to make a tactical stock for it. Cost was around $600. (The original stock got broken by my ribs in a car wreck.) Second is a Rem 770 in 7mm/08. I have no respect at all for that model (another story). (On the original stock, the pillar posts were made of drinking straws and the screws could not be tightened without crushing them.) And as a result of the very cheap design of that model, there were a few issues that came up that Chris had to overcome and so it took longer. I got that one in a hunter stock and it really is stunning to see. I believe that one was around $400. Both prices included receiver bedding and came installed with steel pillar posts bedded really well. Both came with a quality pad and studs as requested.
The only complaint I have is that the finishes are quite soft; they scratch easy. If I was to do it over again, I would finish them myself. But I need to accept responsibility for a lot of that. I tend to treat my guns as a functioning tool - I can be pretty rough with them at times.

I believe Hagn did most, if not all, of the woodwork and Ralf Martini did the metalwork when Martini&Hagn were an item. Not sure who does the wood work now. . I had a full custom Nesika .20 Tactical done by them... meticulous work ! Chris Greisbech (?) (now in Three Hills AB, ) worked for them prior to recently moving here and may be a good candidate for your stockwork.
