Having had several custom rifles built, by several gunbuilders, my suggestion is to look at some actions and stocks, decide which most appeal to you, and then shop around for a gunbuilder. Some gunbuilders seem to somewhat specialize in certain types of rifles, so they might be a better choice to build the type of rifle that you want. If I wanted a super lightweight mountain rifle, I would likely use a different gunbuilder, than if I wanted a varmint, or target style rifle.

RMR probably put that forward offset rear scope mount on that gun so you could move your scope as far forward as possible. The recoil on a lightweight 338 mag is probably going to be on the heavy side and, for me anyways, it would be nice to have lots of distance between the eyepiece and my eye.
If you like the scope way back as pictured than there is no reason to have that rear mount, other than the visual appeal.
I sure like the 338 mag choice! What length of barrel is on that sucker?

exactly my thinking, and why i thought the forward mount was there too, lay prone with that beotch and tell me you don't get scoped? shouldering it is one thing, but for me shouldering it i know i need to be climbing forward to just get into the meat of the sight picture, helps maximize clearance for prone over the pack shooting that so often seems to happen as things get closer then, sheep prolly hasn't had it to the range for shooting yet and may end up moving it once some shooting done, not saying we are built the same sheep, just an observation that the scope looked too far back to me...in that rifle weight/cartridge it'd be at the furthest edge forward i could make work for standing/sitting work so i had least amount of chance of scoping myself on an angled prone shot of some sort
this derailed thread is more entertaining now anyhow, op got the answers i'm sure he was looking for by now

good one lol, just things a guy notices is all i was saying, i looked at the lightweight 338 and about the first thing i noticed on that goofy scope was what i mentioned...not trying to one up anyone with my expertise lol, was merely an observation, i looked and said 'ouch' in my head and commented is all, we could be build completely different and or hold things different etc. its very personal...maybe i should have said it just looks too far back for me...there, that better

Lol. Ya lots of advice for sure. The scope can't go any further forward or I couldn't see through it. The eye relief dictates where its set. Its perfect with about 4 inches. Its got a 24 inch barrel. This is the last time I post a picture for redfrog. Sheesh.

Joking aside, do you know how the defiance bolt handles are held onto the bolt body? Are they one piece?

just make sure next time the picture shows you with the rifle shouldered. Standing, prone and kneeling. All with a ruler held between eye piece and orbital bone so we know the eye relief is adequate.

$400-$500
When I talked to them about it in May the bugs had not been completely worked through yet. I do know that it is made by Sunny Hill and would apparently be priced accordingly.

They offer (or at least did) both options (one piece for a premium). I don't think Glen would drop the one piece idea since he and Mike (and Jim I guess) implemented it on Nesika actions.
S. Solder or Machined from plate. Bat has gone to Tig welding I believe on all actions.
