My .410 grouse shot gun is called - "the meat stick"
My brother calls his .300 Win Mag - 'ol fisty (due to the size of hole it left on a moose once)

My son calls 300 ultra mag the ultra bang, my wife calls it Cancun because I've got enough into it to pay for a trip for the both of us for a week.(She's Not Bitter) Personally I love both names & use them regularly.

Thinking of calling my 700 Ti in .308 - "Sudden Impact"
Reason #1: Weighing 5 1/4 lbs, it kicks pretty good.
Reason #2: The first deer I shot with that gun basically went azz over tea kettle when it was hit
Once shot a Sako 375 H&H with no limbsaver, it nickname was
"PURE VIOLENCE".
I liked that gun, it was responsible for about 9 stitches last I heard.

Thats what I call a hammer . I guess it can function for both, though.
Another thought came to mind for anyone packing something really large, from .375 H&H up to or larger than a .458 Win Mag and that would be "The Enola Gay"

I don't name my guns as a rule.
The exception is a Hawken replica that I had built in 1980 called "Sadie".

Back in 1991, when I changed to RL22 in the 25-06, the time of flight was noticeably shorter. I used to hear the boom, then the whack of the bullet strike. With RL22, it was one sound, boomwhack! The first few deer dropped like a rock. I commenced calling it the "thunder clap of God". The last thing those deer heard!

I call mt TC Pro Hunter in 50 cal. Chuck Norris...because its that awesome. And my 12 gauge Browning BPS Bear Spray, (stole it from some clever fella on this site-great name whoever you are) I call my girlfriends .22 Bin-Plinken. LH A-Bolt in 7mm WSM excalibre, and my 12 O/U I call 'Black and Blue for 2' bc that's what happened to my shoulder when both barrels went off w/ 2 3" mags in the barrels

well 'its' cherry is broke as of sept 8 where i couldn't turn down a coyote on uncles place while dropping off one of his guns i just scoped/zerod, he was just asking me to get out there and thin them out as they are over run this year...first year pup 100-135 yrds through the shoulders, small bowling ball size exit and finger sized bone fragments strewn about....and what a whallop!
so still not enough history yet to get a feel for a name, next up should be a sheep, hopefully in next week or two i'll have one down, then maybe a whitetail supplemental at long range in november to get a season and form some idea of an appropriate name....nothing has stuck so far
but that was first shot without ear protection with that brake...quite a pop, almost over shadowed the pop of hitting that coyote....it could have a nickname relating to its noise level at the muzzle, or on game, or about my hearing loss? still too soon to say....
