Sorry not trying to sabatoge this post, but I am waiting to hear about the ice thickness on obed as well, waiting until its safe before I go out on the lake. Is obed safe to drive on ever in the winter ? or do all the springs keep it from freezing properly. Don't know if I want to walk all the way to the trench but if thats the only way I might.

Used to drive on Obed years ago and never had any problems except sometimes there would be a wicked snowdrift right at the launch.
As for the browns I fished it a couple times last summer and nada, zilch, zero,I don't know what happened to them but we didn't have any luck at all.
The perch in there are tasty tho..

I'm hoping to get out there in the next couple days with a quad or snowmobile. Hopefully there is enough ice.

I've never fished Obed through the ice. Is it safe to go out on the "trench" in the winter? Is there a current or springs in it that keep the ice thin? Where are any other well known areas to avoid due to the springs that you guys are talking about?

Did they drive on by the boat launch or from the west side?

I hope those Millers' Browns didn't swallow the hook, and were graciously returned by the lucky fisherman who caught them.

Yes there are some rainbows in obed. I personally have seen a few in the last few years including a couple of 4 pounders last year.

Drove on it last week, didn't fish tho.

Only found two holes drilled on the west end of the deep dogleg.

Drove across to the far point and seen nada for holes or activity.

Obed at one time was stocked with Brookies. Off the east point where the cabins were, with a F5 flatfish in red and white. These were back in the 80's. Don't know why it was never re stocked with Brookies or why they did not reproduce on their own. I was told a virus was found in the lake the source was the muskeg creek on the west end, which was why the rainbows were no longer stocked. Apparently the Browns were hardy enough though, and of course the perch are doing fine.
